The BEST Way To Make Money on YouTube - It's NOT YouTube Ads

The biggest mistake I see youtubers make is that they put so much emphasis on earning money through YouTube AdSense when there's actually a much better way that has a 10x return over YouTube ads. And I'm going to talk about that in the video here. So when I started on YouTube, I was also very focused on getting monetized with YouTube advertising. Because everyone that's like kind of like the, the first milestone, the first really big milestone, you finally get to the point where you get your 1,000 subscribers and your 4,000 hours of watch time, which actually takes a long time to do. It took me about two and a half years. I was so excited, I finally got monetized and I started making a few pennies a day. That's right, a few pennies a day on advertising. And I was like, okay, so maybe this is going to take a bit longer than I thought. And I work with a lot of clients who are trying to make it on YouTube and they're like, Lauren, how do I do what you did? How do I go from, you know, making a few hundred dollars a day to making thousands of dollars a day? And I would tell them, you need to stop focusing on AdSense and you need to focus on creating a course that you can sell for money. So what I did in 2017, I actually recorded a guitar course. Okay. And I released it in November of 2017. Now that month I probably made a few dollars in AdSense, but I made $600 in courses. Okay, can you already see the big difference there? And I was like, okay, this is the way to go. So I need YouTube because it's how I'm going to grow my brand. But I got to figure out how to leverage YouTube so that I can promote my courses. Okay? So what I've done is I've actually gone over to my YouTube channel, my YouTube studio, just because I want to show you how amazing and big this difference is. And I pulled up the last four days. So the last four days on YouTube, I made $904, you can see here. And it was a lot of views, 155,000 views. Okay, just to make $900. And I know what you're saying, like nine, that's almost like $225 a day, which is what I used to make when I worked at the pharmaceutical company. So that technically is a full time income. But what I'm going to do now is I'm going to flip over to my course selling platform. So this is the course selling platform that I use and you can see in the upper left hand corner says Lauren Bateman Music. This way, you know, it is my account. And, and in the last four days, January 1st to January 4th, I have made $16,000. $16,000 in courses, okay? That is 16 times as much as I made on YouTube. Now, in full transparency, it's the new year and people start picking up, you know, those new year resolutions. So I'm going to make a lot more money. So it's not always 16 times, but if I show you over the course of a full year, you're going to see it's about 10 times as much. So last year on YouTube, this is 2024, I made $80,000. That's more money than I made at the pharmaceutical company. That is a full time income. But look at the number of views I had to get. 11.3 million views. That's a lot of, of views to make $80,000. Okay, so you're looking at this and you're like, okay, see, I'm showing you. It's possible you alone could make a full time income just by doing YouTube advertising. If you get your channel to be big enough, okay, 100%, you can do that, but I'd rather do that. And this, okay, so this is the courses. This is just courses. So that same time period, 800,000. So there you go, 10X, we did $80,000 on AdSense in YouTube, $800,000 in courses. And this, this is the reason why I tell my clients, listen, yes, we're going to grow your YouTube channel, but we're going to turn it into a real business, okay? You're not going to make money on YouTube by just YouTube ads, all right? You can, but the real money is in the courses. And if you are an expert, if you have a skill. I'm a guitar teacher, okay? I'm a guitar teacher and I help people learn how to play the guitar, okay? I help them solve a problem. And people find me on YouTube. And because I have all these lessons and all these videos and I'm sharing all this amazing advice on YouTube, they say, wow, I really like Lauren. I like the way she teaches. I really like her approach. I like her personality. I'm going to go and buy her course. And that happens over and over and over again. The right way to use YouTube is to go fishing for clients. I tell my clients that I work with all the time. You need to put out YouTube videos that are going to find your ideal customer who want to buy the product and service that you have. So I am constantly putting out videos, helping people learn to play the guitar. But I'm also letting them know, hey, if you found this helpful, I have a course over here that you can go enroll in that's going to help you solve your problems, because YouTube's great. There's tons of information on YouTube. You know that you're on YouTube right now, learning. But the downside of YouTube is it's so haphazard and you don't know what is step one, what's step two, what's step three. And that's why you put something in a course that has a blueprint, that has a pathway, that has a plan for people. So now instead of making, you know, $1,000 on YouTube, you're making $10,000 selling courses every month. And that, my friend, is amazing.
