These Two Funnels Are a Game-Changer for Your Online Course Sales

Lauren Bateman walks through two funnels for selling online courses: a lead-magnet funnel that nurtures email subscribers into buyers, and a webinar funnel that teaches, pitches with bonuses and scarcity, then closes. She shows how a price increase from $197 to $397 worked in a real relaunch and explains why email list selling matters.

If you ask any online coach or guru, hands down, they're going to tell you the most money is made off of your mailing list. Now, when you're just getting started, oftentimes you don't have a big mailing list. So what can you do to start growing that? Where we're going to talk about the two funnels that you need to be using in your business. One, to start growing your mailing list, but also to start making sales on your courses and products. Then when creating your first offer, my recommendation would be to keep it under the 997 mark because as soon as you go over that number, it really requires a sales call. Sales calls can be involved. So if you don't have a team to handle that or you're going to be doing all the sales calls, then I would highly recommend keeping it below that number. Try to focus on a product that maybe you're going to charge 2 or $300 for. It's worth a lot of value to people. It helps them solve a big problem, but can easily be sold through something like a landing page, an email or a webinar. Now, one of the best ways to building your email list when you're small is to use a lead magnet funnel. What does that mean? It means that I'm going to create a piece of content here on YouTube and I'm going to say, hey, if you want X, Y and Z, go to the link in the description below or go to this website and give me your email and I will send you a free PDF or a free course. For example, on my guitar YouTube channel, one of the biggest things I promote is my free crash course. I have a free course and I just say, hey, go to laurenbatement.com, you can sign up for the free crash course and you'll get the PDF workbook and downloads. In education, people really love PDF downloads, especially for music. They like being able to see the tab and the music so that they can play along with it. And what that does is it provides me a constant stream of new leads every month that I can then go pitch an offer to. And if you're using a platform like Kajabi, that's the platform I use. It's really simple to embed an opt in form and then what you can do on the back end so it collects the person's email. You can then sequence emails to come afterwards. So usually I send out an email immediately that says, here's the download for the workbook. Congratulations, here you go, get started. On your free course. And then I will start following up with different emails to provide value and then try to sell them on buying my beginner course. So that's kind of the funnel. The funnel is, I have content here. Hey, go check out my free crash course, get the free download, and then we're going to try and sell you on the course that's going to solve the problem. The free crash course shows you a bit of who I am and how I can help you. And if you want more help like this, go buy the full course and you're going to get all this value. The next great funnel that you should be building around your courses is a webinar funnel. And I would recommend doing them live first. That's what I did in the beginning. So I just kind of did a weekly webinar and I'd be like, hey, I have these times here for you to sign up. And I did that again all through. The Kajabi platform makes it very easy for you to host a live webinar. And I just went in and the format for a webinar is you have an intro. Okay, Very, very quick intro outlining what we're going to do. Okay. First, I'm going to introduce myself and how I can help you. And that probably takes, you know, five minutes or so. Keep it quick as possible, but tell them your story and, and why you should be the one that's helping them or why you have the authority to give this workshop or this webinar. And I tend to call them workshops because people don't want to go to a webinar. They want to learn something. So I call them workshops because after you do that intro and introduce yourself, you're going to do a workshop. You want to teach them. I hate going to webinars where they, they don't teach you anything. It's just like it's a big sales pitch for an hour. No, teach people, show them, give them something very valuable to be like, holy crap, if they're giving this away for free, what's going to happen if I buy the course? It's a law of reciprocity. So if you help someone, chances are they will want to help you. And that's usually them buying the course. Now, with webinars, you can see what works, what doesn't work, and you can start, you know, kind of fine tuning your craft in your delivery of this workshop. After you have the content delivered, you are then going to pitch the offer. Okay. And you should give them something special, some sort of bonus for being on the webinar that they can't get anywhere else. You want to create some scarcity, some excitement around this offer, and then usually I follow that up with some frequently asked questions and then I end off with kind of a testimonial reel from students who have taken my course. If you don't have a testimonial reel yet, that's perfectly fine. You could easily end on the frequently asked questions. Now, the webinar funnel works much the same as the lead magnet funnel, except you're actually trying to sell them to buy at the end of the webinar. But if they do not buy, you can also set up an email sequence to say, hey, I saw you went to the webinar but did not buy the course yet. Are you still interested in getting this free bonus? Because in seven days that free bonus is going to go away Way. The next funnel is a product launch and this is mostly going to take place in email. So ideally, what you're going to do when you do a product launch is you are going to do email promotion for an entire week. So you're going to send out an email every day providing value, why they should go buy this course. Okay. The week before, you could even prompt, hey, I'm going to give you an email with some value and it's going to be related to this cool offer I have coming out next week or this new product that I'm about to launch. And then you would go through an email sequence where you email them every single day. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, you're going to send an email. Each one of those is going to have different things you're trying to do. You could be addressing objections in one email. Another email could be giving testimonials. If you have testimonials from people who've been through the course shows proof of concept that this works for other people. You could have a frequently Asked questions email, one that answers all those specific questions and details about the course. Remember, there's lots of different buyers. Some people are skimmers. Some people need to know every single detail before they're going to make a decision. Some people are on the fence. They want to know, is this going to work for me? So they want to see that social proof. So you want to try and put these in the different emails so that you can entice the different types of buyers to buy from you. So I'll show you real quick. I actually have a product launch going on right now over on Kajabi. It's on a New product. We're actually doing a price increase. Okay. So it just goes to show you we have a product already that we've launched this product. I've had it for, for years at this point and we're going to be doing a price increase. So we're giving everyone a last chance this week. Today is day number five. So on day number five we send out three emails. One in the morning, one in the afternoon, one in the evening saying, hey, this is the last chance for you to get this. The price is going to double tomorrow. Shit or get off the pot. Okay. Kind of one of those things. So right now I am doing a product launch over in Kajabi and I want to show you. So we've this, today is day five. We're going to send out three emails today. Hey, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening that is kind of like this is your last chance to grab this offer because it's going away tomorrow. Now this is a relaunch of a product we already have. We're going to be increasing the price. We're basically doubling the price on my signature offer. And we're saying, hey, you're on the mailing list and we want to give you one last chance to buy this at the current price of 197 before it goes up on Saturday and we double the price and it's going to be 397 to get access to this same exact product. So you can see here we sent out the first email which was February 20th and made $7500 on the 1st day. There was some excitement. Yes, awesome. A lot of people grabbed it, sent in another email the next day. Not as big of an impact but you did see, you know, we did about $2,800 in sales and then the next day we sent another one about 6,000. And then yesterday we did 8,300. Now today is Friday. So I would expect you're going to make the most money on the final day. Okay. Because there's a lot of people who wait until the last minute. So I wouldn't be surprised if Friday becomes a five figure sales page. It's about 12 o' clock right now, which means our second email is about to be going out very, very soon. So again I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a five figure sales day. But it just goes to show you the power of doing an email launch. Now I don't have a huge email list. It's only going up to about 17,000 people, but it just goes to show you the power of selling to an email audience and why it's important to grow that email list because all the money is really in the email. So if you want to know how to get more leads to grow your email so that you can do product launches just like this and make a lot of money, go check out that video right over there.
