A short YouTube monologue by Lauren Bateman contrasting guitar players with guitar teachers. Bateman argues that while many guitarists may play better technically, good teachers excel at breaking skills down for beginners, exercising patience, meeting students at their level, and motivating them by teaching songs the students enjoy rather than the teacher’s preferred repertoire.

There's a huge difference between guitar teachers and guitar players. Now, there's tons of guitarists out there who play the guitar much better than me, and they let me know on my YouTube videos that they can do so. But the difference between, you know, a guitar player and a good guitar teacher is a teacher knows how to break things down, especially for beginners. There's many guitar players who get frustrated with beginners because it requires a lot of patience and. And, you know, a lot of guitar players, they want to do the things that they love to do in the lessons, and that takes years. So a good guitar teacher has patience, knows how to break things down, and can meet the student on their level, and they make sure that they're doing things that motivate the students. So, for example, I'll do music that my students like, not necessarily the music that I love, because that's what's going to motivate my students, and that's what's going to keep them happy, and that's going to help them practice.
