A short YouTube clip by Lauren Bateman giving motivational advice for beginner guitar players. The speaker argues that belief in oneself is the single biggest factor for success on guitar, warns that negative self-talk leads to quitting, and recommends persistent practice and positive reminders ("I'm learning, I will get there").
The biggest determining factor for success on guitar is whether you believe you can do it or not. It's just like the little engine that could. Okay, I think I can. I think I can, I think I can. If you believe that this is possible, you will be able to do it. But if you are constantly telling yourself, I suck, I can't do this. This stinks. I'm not a good guitar player. If you keep having that negative mental talk in your head, it's going to make you quit. All right? So you have to remind yourself, I'm learning. I'm going to get there. I'm not there today, but I will get there. I'm to keep practicing. Right? The belief in yourself, again, is the number one factor of whether you will be successful with this instrument or not.
