The harsh reason of why you will cap out as a junior developer (how to solve it)

Phil Choi went from laid off and out of shape to senior developer after 30 by building daily discipline: coding, exercise, healthy eating. He studied RTC and sockets in cafes and late nights, pushing through low motivation. The question is whether your current actions are making you who you want to be.

So every day you wake up, you know, you have to code, you have to exercise, you have to eat healthy, and you have to do all these things, right? Sometimes you don't feel motivated to do those things. Sometimes it's hard. You wake up and that's like the last thing you want to do. And you have to really ask yourself, am I the person that I want to be or am I on the way to be the person that I want to be? So my name is Phil. I became a senior developer after the age of 30. If this video becomes used to you, like, and comment time when you were. You pushed yourself when you didn't have that much motivation. And I read all the comments and we can have a discussion about it. So I wake up, you know. You know, since my first video, I think when I just got laid off, you know, if you haven't watched that video, watch it. That's what pushed me to, like, start this YouTube journey. I was like the. I was the heaviest that I've ever been in my whole life. I was at a weight that I don't even want to, like, say because I'm embarrassed about it, right? Because I used to be a very fit person. And then I. Over, like the past couple months, I've been taking exercise super seriously. There are days, like, where I'm like, oh, I don't want to, like, wake up. I don't want to code, I don't want to exercise. I don't want to do the things that are going to make me better. Right. There's plenty of those instances. I just wanted to kind of push myself. Like, or, like, when that happens, I kind of ask myself, am I the person that I want to be? Sure. Like, I think that is, like, motivation because it makes you feel like, okay, I'm not yet. So I want to kind of go study, put in those hours in studying and coding and put in that time in the gym or put that time in, you know, eating something healthy, and that's going to help you again kind of go towards your goal. So honestly, you ask yourself, like, am I the person that I want to be? Or the steps I'm taking right now currently helping me become the person I want to be. And that question, if that. If that answer is no, then definitely just try to become the person you want to be, whether it be through exercise or coding or whatever it is. Right? Because when I was coding, when I was, you know, coming up 2017, like 2018, 2019, those years I was. I was new to programming and some Days I did want to give up. Some days were harder than others, some days were easier than others. Some days were. It was just hard because I wanted to be as good. And sometimes things weren't. I wasn't understanding something. It was like breaking my confidence a lot. And also like sometimes I get to a certain spot where I feel too comfortable and I think like, no, like I don't need to study, but you know, going to the cafe like over the weekend and just sitting there for a couple hours, learning something new, following some tutorial or, you know, reading some articles, you know, and pushing myself to the edge of my knowledge, what really helped me and gained some confidence, you know, learning about RTC and learning about Sockets and all that kind of stuff. It definitely like expanded my mind where I was not scared, you know, once I got into the job and I was able to come up with good suggestions. And now I am like, I'm pretty comfortable. Like I'm not like comfortable like as in like I feel like I can code, I can be a way better programmer. And I think everyone should always feel that way. Anyways, I am like very proud of myself now after, you know, I remember like at the office sometimes, you know, when people get off clock or get off work, you know, like you go for dinner with your team or whatever and get some drinks. I definitely like went to go get drinks and I'd go back to the office and study and I've been that guy, like falling asleep like with my head on the keyboard, like key pressed and waking up to like a bunch of like gibberish on like the screen. Like definitely, like I've definitely been there and just push yourself and make sure you hit your goals and become, you know, become that person that you want to be. And you know, I, for me, I'm still, I'm still programming, I'm still studying. I'm also still exercising, trying to get in better shape, trying to be a better dad, you know. You know, it would be kind of cool like in the comments if you told me like what, you know, what person you want to become as well and what you're doing in order to get that. And yeah, if I can do it, you can do it too. Coding saves lives.
