In this concise talk, a seasoned coach with over 35 years of experience shares the five core principles he wishes he had known in his twenties, drawn from mentoring many Latino clients who rose from modest beginnings to wealth. He advises young adults to (1) discover and monetize their unique talents, (2) seek out and learn from older, more experienced people, (3) present themselves confidently through health, hygiene, and demeanor, (4) develop strong character and faith by keeping promises and working hard, and (5) master communication—listening, writing, speaking, and negotiating. He frames the twenties as a period for building the person who will later reap compound benefits, invites viewers to share additional advice, and encourages following for more content on financial dignity and heart‑centered living.

Now here are five things I wish I would have known in my twenties. I spent more than 35 years coaching and advising people about their money and their lives, and I've watched people who started with almost nothing become incredibly successful and yes, become millionaires and multi-millionaires, and most of them Latinos and Latinas. So if you're in your twenties and you're wondering what should I be focusing on right now to build a successful life, well here are these five things that I've seen over and over again. Number one, discover your unique abilities, tus dones, your gifts. Figure out what you're naturally good at, what you enjoy doing, what other people value, and then learn how to monetize that. Because loving something isn't enough. Becoming really good at it that creates value is better. Number 2, get into better rooms. Build relationships with people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s who have a lot more experience, education, and success than you do. Don't try to be the smartest person in the room. Be the most curious. Number 3, learn how to present yourself. Take care of your health, your hygiene, how you dress, how you walk into a room, how you look people in the eye, how you shake their hands. Build your confidence. Those things matter. Number 4, build your character and your faith. Decide you're going to be— decide who you're going to be when nobody's watching. Keep your word. Work hard. Don't take shortcuts. Be disciplined. And build a faith strong enough to carry you through the years when life doesn't go according to plan. And number 5, learn how to communicate. Learn to listen, learn to write, learn to speak, learn to negotiate. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you can't communicate it, the world may never know what you have to offer. Now, your 20s aren't about proving that you've already made it. They're about becoming the person capable of making it. Build that person now, and you'll spend the rest of your life collecting that compound interest. And if you're watching this and you know somebody in their 20s, Send this to them, and if you already built success and you're in your 40s, 50s, and 60s and beyond, tell us in the comments what would you like to add to this list? What do you wish somebody would have told you when you were 25? Let's help the next generation learn from the lessons that took us decades to learn, and follow me for more lessons about money, life, and building a life with financial dignity and corazón.
