I just released my 6th book, Finanzas con Corazón: The Latino Journey to Financial Dignity, and here it is. And I want to tell you why I wrote it. When I came back to East Los Angeles more than 35 years ago to work in the Latino community, many of us believed financial literacy was the answer. Teach people how to budget, teach them about credit, teach them how to save and invest. And all of that's important, but today we have hundreds of financial books, thousands of videos, podcasts, websites, social media content, and more financial information than ever before. And yet the Latino wealth gap still exists. So I started asking myself, what are we missing? And I realized something after working with Latino families for more than 3 decades: information alone doesn't change people's lives. People have to change the way they think about money. That's why this book is about changing an impoverished Latino financial mindset into an empowered Latino financial mindset, a mindset that says I can build wealth. I can create choices. I can change my family's financial future. In this book, I share the tools I've used throughout my career to help people have those financial epiphanies that can change the direction of their lives. I talk about the truth, awareness, responsibility, and courage, understanding where you come from, understanding why you make the financial decisions you make, and then having the courage to say, my family's financial story can change with me. That's why I wrote this book, because I just don't want our community to know more about money. I want us to build wealth, create choices, and live with financial dignity.
