Stop Lying to Yourself About Money & Success!

Louis Barajas says most money problems are really priority problems: you spend on luxuries while skipping life insurance and emergency savings. He argues that career growth takes proactive work, not waiting for motivation, and that consuming financial content without acting on it changes nothing.

I've had to learn over the years not to be honest with everyone because I've realized that there are a lot of people who just can't handle the truth. They say they want honest advice, but they can't hear it. And then what happens when I do tell them honest advice, they go to somebody else and they look for somebody who's going to tell them what they want to hear. So don't worry, I'm not talking about anybody watching this. Um, these are just for the other people. Okay. All right. So I'm not going to tell them that they have a money problem for sure. I'm gonna let them believe that because the truth is they don't have a money problem, they have a priority problem. They'll say that they can't afford an estate plan or start saving for their emergency reserve, but guess what? They'll spend twice on that on concert tickets, on a weekend trip, on a new iPhone, or just eating out. And the truth is people usually find money for what matters most. I'm definitely not gonna tell 'em that if they have children depending on them and they refuse to buy life insurance that their financial actions aren't matching their words. They'll say that their family's everything, then their financial decisions should reflect that, right? They don't. I'm not going to tell them that their boss probably isn't the biggest reason that they're stuck and they're not being valued, right? Because are they learning new skills? Are they finding a mentor? Are they showing up early? Are they doing more than what's expected? Because extraordinary careers are rarely built on ordinary effort. And I'm not going to tell them that they should be waiting for more motivation because successful people don't wait until they feel like doing something. And then I'm not going to tell them they're too busy. Everybody's busy. The real question is busy doing what? Because a person's calendar and bank account usually reveal what they truly value. And lastly, I'm definitely not going to tell them that they don't need another financial tip. They don't. They don't need another podcast. They don't need another YouTube video. They don't even need another TikTok. What they need is to act on what they already know, because knowledge without action changes absolutely nothing. Now, if any of these sounded familiar, don't take it personally, just take it as an opportunity. Because the fastest way to change your financial future is to change today's financial decisions.
