Louis Barajas says you don't need elite connections to surround yourself with successful people. Volunteer at nonprofits where business owners sit on boards, join your local Chamber of Commerce, attend conferences, or ask someone for coffee and ask questions. You can also change your circle by reading their books and listening to their podcasts.

You've probably heard the saying that if you hang around 9 broke people, you'll become the 10th. But every time I hear that, I think, well, what if you're the one who's struggling? How are you supposed to magically start hanging around wealthy people? So here's what I've learned. You don't have to be invited into a billionaire's country club to change your life. You just need to get closer to the people who are trying to live the life you're trying to build. So volunteer for a nonprofit where successful business owners serve on the board, or join your local Chamber of Commerce, or Go to networking events, take a class, attend conferences, find a mentor. Ask someone you admire if you can buy them a cup of coffee and ask them some questions. Most successful people are surprisingly generous with someone who's humble, prepared, and genuinely wants to learn. And remember, you don't just become like the people you spend time with, you become like the people you listen to. So if you can't be around successful people every day, read their books, listen to their podcasts, watch their interviews. Feed your mind with better conversations because changing your circle doesn't always mean changing your address. Sometimes it just means changing what you allow into your mind.
