Hey, April 15th is right around the corner. Now you've got a few days left to file your tax return, but let me tell you something, don't stress out if you don't have all your paperwork together. It happens more than you think. So what can you do? Well, you can file an automatic extension using IRS Form 4868. Now that gives you until October 15th to get all your paperwork together and file your return. So take a deep breath, you've got time. Now here's what you need to understand. That extension gives you more time to file your return, but it doesn't give you more time to pay your taxes. So if you think you're going to owe, you wanna estimate it and send something in by April 15th, because if you don't, the IRS starts charging about half a percent per month in penalties plus interest, which right now is around 7% annually. So that balance, it keeps growing every single month. The penalty itself doesn't go on forever. It caps out at about 25% of what you owe. But the interest, well, that keeps going on until you pay it off. So what do you do if you're not ready? File the extension, estimate what you think you're going to owe, pay as much as you can. Even if it's not perfect, it reduces the damage. And at the end of the day, this isn't about being perfect. It's about being responsible and staying ahead. So don't ignore it, handle it.
