A group got stuck in Hokkaido after flight delays pushed their arrival to late evening. The rental car shop was closed, so they paid for a three-hour taxi to Niseko Village through heavy snow. When they arrived, everything was shut down, and no taxis would run in the storm to get them to the nearest open town.

In our original itinerary, we would have landed in Hokkaido early afternoon, but after all the flight delays and extra planes, we arrived late in the evening. So late that the rental car shop was closed where I was supposed to rent a car. We had two options. We would either have to pay for an extra hotel room and stay in Sapporo for the night and then drive out the next day, or pay for a taxi that would drive us three hours from the airport to Niseko Village. Can you guess what we chose? We. Looking back on it, I'm kind of glad we ended up just sucking it up and paying taxi because the weather ended up being really bad and it snowed the whole three hour drive up to Niseko Village. We ended up getting to the ridge so late that the kitchen and restaurants were closed. Everything around us was closed and the only open areas around was the nearby town and that was about a 30 minute drive and there due to the storm, there were no taxis that could take us there and take us back.
