Do What You Love. Love What You Do.

Lynne Levy, a product-management coach, gives product managers four actions to take this week: identify your unique talents, audit past jobs to find patterns in what you loved and struggled with, actively demonstrate your value in meetings, and embody your best self by dropping defensiveness and pettiness.

From the Inspired Product Leader. So as a product management leadership and career coach, I'm used to hearing from product managers about how to level up and grow in the world of product. But lately, the people who I'm talking to, they have just a different sense of urgency. Now it's about how can we finally make a significant career and leadership shift. Product managers are pausing and saying, do I love what I'm doing? So it's not just about getting to that next position anymore. It's about career fulfillment. So product managers are having challenges such as, I work in a toxic environment. I'm just not aligned with the types of services and products my company offers. I'm just tired of the way I'm treated. And I know it's time for a change. I'm frustrated that I can't make a decision and I do not feel valued. So a crisis like we're dealing with right now, it just makes us, makes us wake up and realize that it's so important that we do what they love, what we love, and that we're leveraging our talents. So let's go through a couple of things I want you to start to do this week. To help you level up and love what you do. First, I want you to understand basically your unique value proposition. What are your unique talents and why are these talents essential? We each have our own set of skills, talents, and abilities. What I have found is that product managers who are happiest in their work are using these talents and skills towards something that is meaningful to them. Step 2, take some time this week and I want you to make a list of every job you've had and then outline what did you love, what did you not like, the significant achievements, the hardest struggles, and the biggest takeaway from each job. I want you to focus in on what do you love to do. Number 3, I want you to start sharing and demonstrating your value. I want you to share your skills. I want you to start using those skills and abilities. I want you to talk about your perspective and what you know, and I want you to start to speak up at meetings, start taking a stance. And number 4, I want you to embrace being the best version of yourself. Rise above the pettiness, defensiveness, micromanagement, and hypersensitivity that comes in the world of product. I want you to start to embody what it looks like to be an inspired product manager. The goal is to both level up and do what you love as a product manager slash leader. So if you're just done being stuck, If you're ready to get promoted, if you're ready to love what you do, let's have a conversation. So you can schedule one on the link that will be shared in a moment. But again, I'm Lynne Levy. I'm a career and leadership coach just for product managers. All right, have a wonderful day.
