YouTube's algorithm just changed in 3 massive ways, and most creators have no idea what's happening right now. Now, my name is Matt Parr. I've grown a bunch of huge YouTube channels. I've been doing YouTube for the past decade, and I'm gonna show you what these 3 changes are and then how to actually use them for your advantage, even though they might appear to be a disadvantage. And change number 1 that's happening right now on YouTube is the inauthentic content detection system. So a little bit earlier this year, YouTube made an announcement where they said they were improving their systems for detecting repetitious and spam content. Now a lot of people took this to mean that YouTube is against AI. And there was videos everywhere saying that YouTube automation was dead and that you can't run faceless channels anymore and that AI voices were banned. And here's what's super important to understand this correctly. YouTube clarified that they're not banning AI voices, they're not banning faceless channels. In fact, they're not banning AI at all. But what they're targeting is what they're calling mass-produced inauthentic content with only superficial differences. Now you might be saying, "Matt, what does that even mean?" Well, let me break it down in simple terms. YouTube is specifically going after channels that are creating the same exact video over and over with only superficial differences. So if you upload the same video over and over with just a tiny difference, YouTube doesn't like that. And say you uploaded 50 AI stories which are all extremely similar, have the same slideshow of images, and follow the same narration style. This is the kind of content that YouTube is against. And the keywords of the statement that YouTube put out regarding this a few months ago is superficial differences. YouTube wants to see substantial and meaningful differences between your videos, not just surface level changes. But here's the good news, and this comes directly from YouTube. They say that they welcome creators that are using AI tools to enhance their storytelling. So AI is not banned. AI voices are completely fine. YouTube automation is still completely viable if you do it the right way. And I talk a lot on this channel about how most people do it the wrong way. You just need to make sure that every video you create has genuine, substantial value that isn't just a straight-up duplicate of your last video with just a few words swapped out. And based off of my 10 years of experience on YouTube, here's exactly what works under these new guidelines. First, make sure every video has unique insights and unique research. Don't just regurgitate the same information every single video. If you're going to use AI, don't just use something like ChatGPT to generate a full script for you. Instead, use something like TubeMagic, which is the AI tool that I made that allows you to put multiple different videos as context, and then it'll run your script through all of the best practices for writing scripts on YouTube, including the best viral hook database, as well as the open and closing loop strategy to keep people watching throughout your whole video. And it'll write you world-class scripts, but even so, don't rely on it 100%. Use it as a starting point and then put in your own unique insights and experience and everything else to make sure that your videos are giving value. But I try to design TubeMagic to, by definition, be giving lots of value because it's taking the best aspects, what's already worked on YouTube, and writing them in new and unique ways. So it'll give you a great starting point if you don't know where to start with your scripts. Next of all, if you're using AI voices, my recommendation is not to use the same exact one that everybody else uses. You can, for example, feel free to use my voice. It's on ElevenLabs if you want to use it. It's a lot less used than the generic ones that everybody uses. You can just search Mad and find it on there. And also, you can clone your own voice. But just remember that AI voices, AI scripts, or even AI video generators like Google Veo, which is getting integrated into YouTube, or like my other AI company called vid.ai— remember that these are all tools, the same way that a video editing program is a tool. You can use that tool to create utter spam garbage, but you can also use that tool to create beautiful works of art. And my recommendation is just to focus on building channels that provides helpful content that solves real problems. Now, the second big change that's happening is an interest-based recommendation system. This is probably one of the bigger shifts of what's happening on YouTube right now, and YouTube's algorithm has fundamentally shifted from a subscriber-based recommendation system to an interest-based recommendation system. Now you might be saying, Matt, what does that actually mean for my channel? Well, according to YouTube's own Culture and Trends report, they've completely overhauled how they recommend content. Instead of showing videos to people based off of who they're already subscribed to, they're now showing videos based on what people are actually most likely to be interested in watching. And this is massive for new creators who are starting from zero subscribers because you can literally launch a brand new channel today and grow it pretty quickly if you know what you're doing. You don't need an existing audience, you don't need 10,000 subscribers, and by the way, you don't even need 1,000 subscribers or 4,000 hours of watch time in order to monetize your channel if you follow my method for monetizing your channel from the very first day you started. I've created a full detailed video on that which I'll link down in the description if you're interested. But let me just explain how this new algorithm change affects how content is pushed, and let me tell you what YouTube does now and how you can actually practically do something about it. So when you upload your video, YouTube looks at what is actually said directly in your video. It'll text, a transcript of it, and it'll use the information from that to determine who to surface your video to. It's also looking at your title and your description, and what they're going to do is test that content to a very small audience initially in the beginning that they think are most likely to be interested in your content. If those people click and watch, then YouTube says, okay, this specific avatar of person is interested in this type of content, let's show it to more people similar to that., and if it continues to do well, your content will be pushed to a wider and wider audience. This is part of the reason I don't recommend sharing your channel with your friends and family and everybody in the beginning due to the fact that that can really mess with the data because you're showing YouTube, "Hey, this is the type of people who's interested," and then they just watch a very short portion of the video and it can confuse YouTube's algorithm. So I don't recommend sharing your channel. So practically what you can do about this is to not go after a super broad niche. Don't just make videos like how to be healthy. How to be more wealthy. The riches are in the niches. My most successful students within my program Tube Accelerator, they're all doing hyper-specific channels. In fact, there's someone in my program running a channel who just had a video blow up and get 400,000 views within just a few days. And he's using our content team and everything to produce the videos. And his channel is so hyper-specific. I wish I could tell you what it was, but I don't know if he wants me divulging his specific niche. But what I can show you is this guy that I saw publicly on YouTube called Richard Kelly, M.D. Now his channel is not faceless like my student's was. However, his channel just did general health advice and his videos did okay. It wasn't anything crazy until he eventually did a hyper-specific video about creatine for people over 50. And by doing that, when YouTube suggested that content to that specific audience of people who wanted to, for example, maybe build muscle and be more healthy after 50, it crushed it. So make some hyper-specific videos into things that you think This might even be too specific, but try to find two topics that have already worked, like creatine, which is very popular, and health over 50, and combine them. Think about how you can combine two popular topics that have already worked for a very specific audience. Now, the third change is making sure that YouTube knows you're a human. YouTube is hesitant to give views and subscribers to channels that they don't know are real people. YouTube wants to know that it's a real person behind a channel before they go ahead and give it any big promotion especially. And they actually limit you being able to now put links in your description until YouTube knows that you're a human. Now you have two different ways of doing this. Way number one is to upload your ID directly to YouTube so you can make a channel. You can verify yourself instantly with that. Or number two, you can do what's called channel history. Now I usually opt for this second path due to the fact that it typically takes less than a month of uploading videos. And then if you go into your channel settings and then go to feature eligibility, you'll see that popping up. Also make sure to verify a phone number on your channel as well. So that you can upload custom thumbnails also. Also, let's say you batch produce a bunch of content for your channel, don't just upload it all in one day. Like for example, if you have 12 videos ready, don't just upload 3 the first day. Space them out a little bit. Think about what you can realistically do and keep consistent with because you don't want YouTube to see you as a spam bot that just uploads 5 videos in a day and then you don't upload again. Or even worse, you just pump out really low quality bad videos. Instead, think about how you can produce really good videos as much as you can, but be realistic about it. And my optimal posting schedule on most of my channels is about 3 videos per week, which would be 12 videos a month or 144 videos per year. You can potentially build a very big business uploading at that schedule so that YouTube knows that you're a human. So to recap, AI is completely fine on YouTube. Just don't produce spam videos. And also don't do channels like those revenge story channels that are just super low quality where they're just copy-pasting stuff from Reddit. That's a copyright problem anyway. So don't do that. Think about how you can produce very valuable content using AI tools. So AI is totally fine if you use it the right way. Also remember, subscribers don't matter. Now is the best time to grow a YouTube channel due to the fact that we have an interest-based recommendation system. Use that to your advantage as a new channel. And then remember to verify your channel so YouTube knows that you're not a robot and that you are a real human. So now you know how to beat the new YouTube algorithm with these 3 changes. But it's really important that you don't just watch this video but you do something about it. I want you to build the YouTube business of your dreams, and part of that is making money from your channel. Don't treat making money as an afterthought. You need to really think about it, and I wish I would have thought about this more when I was building up all my YouTube channels. All I thought about was subscribers and views and vanity metrics, when in reality there's several things that are way more important.
