This is a YouTube video titled "Automated Label Picking with Cahoot Saves Your Sundays" containing an English interview conducted on May 19, 2023. The conversation features Matt Hamill, co-owner of an e-commerce business specializing in home pest control products, discussing the evolution of their shipping label process and how switching from Shipstation to Kahoot has significantly saved time and improved efficiency in their operations. The discussion is led by an unnamed host (Speaker A).
Matt and Jason, so glad to have you here. Thanks for joining me today. Just to familiarize the audience a little bit of who I'm talking to. Could you give an overview of who you are and what your business is?
So I'm Matt Hamill. I'm one of the owners of this company. There's two of us. Our business is strictly E commerce, more for the home pest control market. We started about 13 years ago, worked out of a garage and have moved up to a full size 30,000 square foot warehouse. And we just fulfill orders daily for both vendor third party fba.
So you got all the major channels?
Yes, Walmart, ebay and Amazon and our own website now as well.
So you guys have been around the block, been doing this for a while. Could you walk the audience through a little bit of kind of how you built the tech stack and how you kind of grew into a larger and larger operation?
So we started simply by, it was pretty funny printing labels off an 8 and a half by 11 full sheet of paper and cutting out the shipping label and taping it to an envelope. And we quickly got tired of that and then went to a, what I call a good introductory platform, Shipstation. But we certainly outgrew that. And here we are with Kahoot, because I think it's a little bit more sophisticated than what Shipstation could have provided. So Shipstation got us where we needed, but as we grew, we had to grow with a different platform.
That's a common refrain we hear. You know, Shipstation is great at what it does, but doesn't necessarily get you all the way. What were some of the growing pains you were feeling with Shipstation?
I would say the choice of best shipping cost. Right. It was just too many steps to get to the right package and right price, where having Kahoot, it all popped up right there in front of you, which was nice to choose from.
I heard from the team that you guys were also having to spend an incredible amount of time just picking out labels over and over, even doing it on Sundays. So what was that like?
Miserable when we're busy. It was nice to get my Sundays back to my personal life and not have to worry about it anymore. With Kahoot, I don't nearly have to spend as much time on a weekend preparing labels where I can just come in on a Monday and still get my staff going right away as I finish up what we need to finish through Kahoot. But it's just been a lot. It's the biggest factor is the time.
Savings, obviously about how much time do you think you've saved, you know, versus ShipStation. Every week it's hours.
We're not talking minutes, which obviously adds up during the course of a year. Certainly even just the course of a week, if I'm processing, you know, typically during our peak season, which is spring through mid to late summer, on a Sunday night, it would take me maybe three hours to do a majority of the orders. Not even 100% on ShipStation, where I can get done in an hour or less with Kahoot. So. And that's the biggest night we don't process over the weekend. Stores are open, but we don't do any shipping, so.
