Ecommerce Ugly Talk NYC - AI Is Not Foresight, Just Hindsight

AI like ChatGPT can only remix what already exists, not predict the future. Real innovation comes from listening to your community. Graza olive oil and Harley Davidson's HOG program show how brands win by building loyal audiences, not by chasing algorithmic shortcuts.
Maya, when we were chatting earlier is the future doesn't belong to the past and ChatGPT doesn't have the answer which you said. Could you touch on that? Meaning you said that to create the next version that doesn't exist, you can't get the answer because that answer doesn't exist because what has not been created is not in the ChatGPT database.
Yeah. So I'm going to also touch on the community stuff because I have a couple of really cool examples. But yeah, when you're first starting a business, it's not just chatgpting it because that's everything that already exists, it's everything that the world has already put out. You're trying to create a new solution, you're trying to solve a new problem for you to truly be successful. It's like, what are you coming into this overly saturated industry and offering that no one else is offering? ChatGPT is not going to answer that because ChatGPT doesn't know. It's never been done before. So what the answer is is actually going and asking people, asking people what their experience is. Like back to the skincare experience. It's like, hey, this person gets eczema all the time and none of these products are solving it. They've tried this, they've tried that. They want to use retinol, they want to experience anti wrinkle experiences, but they can't because extra eczema is really prone to it. What is the solution that you're creating? How are you solving that problem that no one else in the market has done? Or if you're not solving a problem, how are you pitching it? How are you marketing it in a way that no one else has done? Graza. Graza is selling olive oil. It's not like a new thing, it's not a new product that they've invented, but the way that they've done it and the way that they've made it youthful. And the squeezy bottle, now glass, they're very proud of that. Is is a new concept in the way that they've marketed it. And that's the approach. It's like how are you changing the narrative and then to the community aspect. Two brands to look at that are doing a really good job of this too. Harley Davidson, they have their HOG program where it's literally like a lifetime membership that they offer roadside assistance for free for their community. They offer like events where everyone can talk to each other. Sourcing, they don't make any money on that. But that lifetime value is priceless. Also, Lego, they have, like, product idea submissions on their website. They have competitions. They truly built, like a community around their product and it shows.
