Mark Kohler walks through five steps to set up and protect an LLC or corporation: form it properly, open a business bank account, and then respect the entity by using its legal name everywhere. Business cards, contracts, websites, and payment platforms should all show the company name, not yours. Use the entity's EIN on W-9s so payments go to the business, not your personal account.

So, number one, get an entity. Number two, set it up properly. Number three, open your bank account. Number four, maintain it. Get right on the system. If some of you haven't done a cleanup, we can do that system immediately. Even if you've had your entity for five to 10 years. Let's tidy it up. Number five, I'm going to call respect. And here's what I mean by that. If you're going to hire someone, they should get a business card with your company name on it. Your email should reflect the name of the company. It's not much to get your own company. Gmail platform, maybe 20 bucks a month. And now I'm Mark at Marc J. Kohler Inc. I want to have that respect. Your email, your website, your business card, Your Venmo, your PayPal, your merchant account, all going to your company.
