Hi, Mark Kohler here with a two minute tax and legal tip. What is an IRA llc? And some of you maybe even heard of the Checkbook Ira LLC or Checkbook LLC. What this is is a company limited liability company owned by your Ira Roth 401K, SEP Simple KIO, any of those deferred retirement type accounts and it's owned by one or more of these. So this LLC could be a combination of retirement accounts, it could be just one retirement account, a single member llc. Now the beauty of these companies are twofold. Number one, the asset protection that the LLC is going to afford you. Many people think, oh Mark, I can just self direct my IRA or set up a trust owned by my IRA and then write checks with it and I can control my ira. And there's I'm protected because the IRA has asset protection. Folks remember the IRA is protected from your personal lawsuits and they can't get to your IRA if you create liability. But if your IRA creates liability holding a rental property or something like that, they can sue you because you made the decisions of your ira. The LLC protects you. The second benefit of an IRA LLC is the actual checkbook that you could control this LLC as a manager. Legitimately we stand behind this. We're doing this for ten years or more. But you can control this LLC as the manager and now have a checkbook to invest your IRA 401k simple keel any of those inside an LLC.
