Short monologue (recorded Nov 10, 2024) arguing that recent progress in AI model training over the past 3–5 years has been dramatic; open-source models are now available at scale; the current challenge is making these model resources accessible to users, which has become an "arms race" dominated by a small number of deep-pocketed organizations and large investments.

The ability to train models now is mind blowing versus even three, four, five years ago. The fact that they're open source now and you can get them at scale, I think that's something that's unbelievable. Now the race is to make that resource available to people to leverage. And doing that is an arms race now. And there's only a handful of people with the balance sheet to go do it, which is why you're seeing them immense, the immense investment.
