Excerpt from a YouTube interview (The Startup CEO SHOW) in which Andrew Gazdecki (CEO, Acquire.com) advises founders to be prepared for due diligence when selling a company or raising venture capital. He emphasizes controlling the timeline, creating competitive processes, and having common documents ready (e.g., org chart, 36-month P&L) to avoid losing momentum or credibility.

You know, when you get that diligence request, the buyer is kind of giving you a subtle signal of, you know, I'm, I'm grading you, like, I'm going to devalue your business if you mess this up. And the same is true with investors. So there's a lot of parallels between selling your company, in my opinion, and also raising venture capital. You want to control the timeline. You want to, you know, make it a competitive process, and you want to be prepared. So when a buyer asks you some simple questions, like, I don't know, do you have an org chart? Or, you know, again, I'm gonna use a P and L example. Do you have just like a 36 month P&L broken out with expenses? And if you can't produce that quickly, they're gonna immediately know that if you told a story like, I'm talking to five different buyers, it's like, no, you're not, because this is F1 stuff. And so you kind of show on your cards and then you slow down the process and, you know, you lose momentum so easily if you do that.
