Mark MacLeod explains why starting a tech company is cheaper than ever. His first startup needed $3 million just for Oracle database licenses. Today, cloud services and lower infrastructure costs mean founders can launch with hundreds of thousands of dollars or their own time.
the cost to start companies that went from tens of millions to millions to hundreds of thousands to ostensibly whatever time you can dedicate to this stuff, marginal cost is phenomenal. I've never seen it in history. Today is the best day in history to start something. There's never been a lower barrier to, to get it going, right?
So. I remember my first startup I was finance leader for, they had to raise $3 million mostly to buy like Oracle databases and shit just to get started.
Yeah. Look at Oracle today.
Yeah, pretty wild for such a big company, right? And they had like crazy guidance. They're like, we're going to grow. I think they said they're going to grow their cloud business like 70% next year or something. Mental.
