Mark MacLeod, who runs the Founder Fuel accelerator, calls out mentor whiplash: founders get conflicting advice from different investors and mentors and freeze. All advice is just input. The founder decides, owns the call, and lives with the result.

When I was at Real Ventures, we had an accelerator program called Founder Fuel. And every once in a while, we would bring together our founders with our mentors. This was a, you know, a day that was meant to bring lots of value, give the founders ideas, help them accelerate, help them with connections, and it was all good. But when we debriefed with the founders afterwards, they often would complain of what they called mentor whiplash. One mentor would be saying, you need to go right. The other mentor would be saying, you need to go left. Perhaps you experience now this now with your investors or board members. And, uh, what I've come to realize over the years is that all advice, no matter who it comes from, is just input, right? If you follow the advice and it's wrong, it's your fault. And so at the end of the day, everything including this video is just input. You take it in and you make your own call.
