Money Advice That Sounds Unethical, But Works GREAT

In this persuasive, instructional video Mark Moss argues that the conventional "American Dream" script—school, college, job, house, retirement—no longer creates wealth because the economic environment has changed. He identifies four systemic "traps" (debt, inflation, tax, income caps) that keep most people poor, and then outlines five actionable rules that the wealthy use to engineer wealth: (1) only borrow for assets that generate higher returns than the loan cost, (2) save at least 40‑50% of income in real assets (real estate, gold, Bitcoin) rather than dollars, (3) move onto the revenue side of a growing business to earn equity and performance pay, (4) accumulate “real money” such as gold and Bitcoin, and (5) borrow in weak (inflationary) money and invest in strong assets. He illustrates these concepts with personal anecdotes—using low‑interest auto financing to invest in Bitcoin, leveraging real‑estate cash flow to buy more Bitcoin, and his own 2008 over‑leveraged collapse. Moss then introduces the FAST method (Focus, Automation, Shift, Time) and a three‑engine Wealth Operating System (time engine, income engine, wealth engine) that together create a repeatable wealth‑building machine. He debunks the myth of truly passive income, describing a spectrum of work‑to‑income and emphasizing the need for systematic processes in any business. The video ends with a call to action for viewers to apply for personalized coaching.

If you've ever wondered why you're still not rich, even though you work hard, you save money, you do everything you're told to do, this video will show you exactly why. And even better, it's gonna show you how to fix this without having to work harder, without having to work longer, because wealth doesn't just happen. It's engineered. And the people who understand how to engineer it never play by the rules that you were taught. Real quick, my name's Mark Moss. I've built and sold multiple companies. I'm a partner at a leading Bitcoin venture fund. I've coached over 6,500 people on these exact wealth-building strategies. So let's go. Okay. So from the time you were a kid, right? They gave you this script. You know the one, uh, go to school, get good grades, go to college, get a job, buy a house, save money, retire someday, right? That was the plan. That was the American dream. And that script, it used to work. Now that used to work when we had sound money, when we had low inflation, but that world, it no longer exists. Today, that script's not freedom anymore. Now that script trap, right? It doesn't create wealth. It creates dependency on a system. It creates workers. It creates taxpayers, creates debtors, but not owners, right? Now, this system wasn't designed to make you wealthy. It was designed to make you predictable. It was a system built to produce employees who show up. They show up on time. They pay their taxes. They spend their paychecks, right? They're consumers. They never question the rules. And most people, they never realize they're following this script. So, here's what you have to understand. You're either building this system or the system is building you. You either design your own life and your wealth engine, or you get designed by somebody else's. That's why my mantra is build or be built. You see, most people are being built. They have no plan. They have no strategy. They have no control. Now, I've coached thousands of people and they're all exhausted. They're all working harder than ever. doing everything right, but the problem is they're getting nowhere. And the answer why is pretty obvious, because they don't know they're even playing a game. But the billionaires, they know exactly what game they're playing. They know the rules, they know the players, they know the objective, they have the strategy, and more importantly, they have the cheat code. How do you expect to win a game when you don't even know you're playing it? The answer is you can't, right? So I'm going to show you the game. I'm going to show you the rules, how the system's engineered to keep you poor, So you can flip the script and you can win it. All right? So if the system is engineered to keep you poor, then wealth has to be engineered. It has to be engineered specifically to set you free. But first, you need to understand exactly how the trap actually works, because once you see it, then you can avoid it. And more importantly, you can flip it. All right? The system keeps you poor through 4 specific traps. The crazy part is that most people fall into all 4 without even realizing it. Let's break them down. Trap number 1 is something called the debt trap. Now, the system teaches you to use debt the wrong way or not use it at all. All right? Now, it does this on purpose. They teach you to borrow money for things that lose value, borrow money for cars, for weddings, for degrees, consumption lifestyle, right? You finance the life that you can't afford. You end up working for decades to pay off things that are already gone. But if we're going to use debt, we want to use debt for things that last, that turn into something productive. Let me give you an example. Earlier this year, I bought my daughter a brand new, uh, car. It was a Ford Bronco, like $50,000. So I went to the Ford dealer and I was prepared just to pay cash for the car. But then the dealer says, hey Mark, um, do you want to look at some finance options? And I was, sure, what are the finance options? He says, well, we can give you 4.99% financing for 6 years. Now, most people would say, Mark, if you've already got the cash, why would you take on the debt? Well, the answer is very clear, because my money can make 50% a year if I put it into Bitcoin. So I'll gladly pay the dealer 4.99% and keep my money and put my money into Bitcoin making 50%, and I make a 45% difference. But the question that poor people would ask is, Mark, But what if I can't afford the payments? And that, but the thing is I have the money, right? You see, the poor mentality is that people borrow for things they can't afford. Middle-class people borrow to upgrade their lifestyle, right? They buy the Cadillac, the BMW, the 6-bedroom house, the boat, whatever. But wealthy people, wealthy mindset, they borrow because it's cheaper to use someone else's money than it is to use their own. That's the difference. The system teaches you debt is bad, but the thing is, if it's used correctly, Debt is the wealth-building tool. Now, the wealthy know this. You don't. That's by design. All right. Now, trap number 2 is the inflation trap. They tell you to save your money, right? And on the surface, of course, that sounds like good advice, right? Except there's one problem. The money that you save loses value every year because inflation's not a bug.
It's a feature.
It's engineered into the system to move wealth upward. Now, Wall Street tells you to save, Maybe in index funds, mutual funds. Just put your money in the S&P 500 and wait for 30 years. But here's what they don't tell you. Since the year 2000, the S&P 500 hasn't made a new all-time high when you adjust it for the money supply, when you adjust it for the amount of money that's been created. As a matter of fact, it's actually down about 20%. So yeah, like your account, you look at it and you feel rich. It looks rich. It says $200 grand or whatever. But you don't feel any wealthier. That's because inflation stole your gains while Wall Street collected their fees. You see, you're getting richer in numbers, but you're getting poorer in purchasing power. If you're saving dollars, you're saving ice cubes like in a sauna. Trap number 3 is the tax trap. So when you trade time for money, like W-2 income, salary, wages, you're taxed first. Depending on your income level, sometimes up to 50% goes to the government before you even see it. But when your money makes money, like passive income or capital gains or business income, you're taxed last, or maybe not taxed at all. You see, the tax code's not broken. It's working exactly as designed. It favors builders and investors, not consumers and employees, because the government needs people to build businesses, create jobs, provide housing. So if all you do is work your 9 to 5, you spend your paycheck on Netflix, You're a consumer, and consumers pay the most. Trap number 4 is the income trap. And the truth here is that salaries cap your upside. You see, whenever you're trading time for money, that's going to equal linear growth. That means you have to work more hours to make more money. But if you're always limited by the hours in a day, then how can you really grow? You see, the wealthy, they don't chase money. They chase time freedom, because once you have the time freedom, making money becomes easier. But most people are stuck trading time for money. And time is the one resource you can never get back. You can always make more money. You can never make more time. That's why employees are capped at linear growth. But owners, they build systems that run without them that exponentially grow. So the wealthy are then not trading time for money. They're building these engines that run on their own. Now, the reason you have to work so hard is because Your money doesn't. So do you see the pattern here? Every trap that we went through is designed to keep you in motion, but going nowhere, working hard, but getting nowhere, earning more, feeling richer, but not actually being richer. It's, it's like being on a treadmill. Now, most people spend their entire lives on it without ever realizing that they could just step off. Because if the system's engineered to keep you poor, then wealth has to be engineered to set you free. And that starts with understanding these 5 rules that the wealthy know, but almost nobody does. So let's break them down.
All right.
Rule number 1, never borrow for anything that won't make you richer. All right. So basically don't finance status, finance growth. You see, most people use debt to buy things that go down in value, furniture, vacations, weddings, lifestyle upgrades, but the wealthy use debt to buy things that go Up in value. Real estate, business equipment, productive assets, Bitcoin, my favorite. But here's the golden rule that I live by. Always use debt. Always get a loan when that borrowed money is cheaper than what your own money can earn elsewhere. You see, that's arbitrage. That's how the wealthy use debt as a tool and not a trap. Like the story I told you earlier about buying my daughter's Bronco, right? I had the cash. But I could borrow the money from Ford at 4.99%, and then I could use my money to go make 50%, which allowed me to make 45% net gain. So that's what we call smart debt. But if I didn't have the cash, if I was borrowing because I couldn't afford it, then that would be dumb debt. That's the trap. So here's the rule. Borrow for things that make you richer, like real estate. Real estate generates cash flow. Equipment that increases revenue, assets that appreciate, but don't borrow for status, right? Never borrow for consumption. Rule number 2, save at least 40% of what you make, but save in real assets, not the way that they taught you. What do I mean by that? You see, most people, again, they're saving in dollars, right? We, we just talked about that. That's like saving ice cubes in a sauna, as I said, right? But the wealthy, they save in real assets. So they're saving in real estate. real estate, in Bitcoin, in gold, in businesses. Now, most people consider that investing, and I'm just using a different word here. I'm thinking about, I'm earning my money in my business, which we're going to come to another rule, and then I'm saving it in these other assets, real estate, Bitcoin, gold, businesses. These are things that hold their value. These are things that appreciate over time. Now, I know what you're thinking. Let's go back to the beginning, Mark, because you said to save 40%. I can't even save 10%. Well, here's how you do it. You plug the financial leaks, you optimize your income, you stop paying more in taxes than you have to, and you shift from a spending mindset to an investing mindset. Most people think their money's only job is to sit in this bank account, like for like this just in case. But like I said earlier, the reason you have to work so hard is because your money isn't. See, I want my money doing 2 jobs or 3 jobs or 5 jobs. Every dollar should be working multiple shifts. Compounding, generating cash flow, creating tax write-offs, appreciating in value. That's what I call the velocity of wealth. Your money should be in motion, not sitting idle, right? Not losing value to inflation. So you need to save aggressively, but save in assets, not dollars. Now, rule number 3 is important to achieve number 2, and that is get onto the revenue side of a growing business. You see, You're never going to get rich with that capped salary. As I said, if you're trading time for money, that's linear growth. See, the wealthy are not getting paid on time. They get paid on growth. So if you're trading hours for dollars, you're playing a losing game, right? There's only so many hours in a day. Your upside is capped. So what the rich do is they focus on equity or leverage or ownership, all of those to get infinite upside, while employees focus on hours with a capped upside. Now, this doesn't mean that you have to go start a business or own a business, right? You can do this even with a job, but here's what you have to do. Go and get a job on the revenue side of a small to medium-sized business, maybe specifically in a growing part of the economy, maybe in a major city, and then make sure your income isn't capped. Now, typically this means you need to look for positions in sales and marketing or in maybe product development, something like that. Right? Where your pay is then linked to the growth of the business through commissions, profit sharing, royalties, equity. Now, in order to do this, you're gonna have to trade a lower salary, but for higher performance pay. Because say like a $60,000 salary with 20% commission is probably worth way more than an $80,000 salary with no upside. See, one caps you, the other scales with your results. Here's the roadmap I learned, and I, this is the one that I followed when I was building out and building my own wealth. Your 20s, they're for learning, right? This is when I worked for other people. Your 30s, this is for earning. This is when I started to build and started to scale my businesses. Your 40s, that's for owning. This is when I started expanding my business portfolio. This is when I started opening up my investment funds. This is when I started expanding into other assets. You see, most people try to start a business way too early, in my opinion. They do this before they have the knowledge, they don't have the network, they don't have the capital to succeed. Now, I'm not talking about side hustles. I mean primary means of financial support. Now, if you execute your career correctly, you won't have to work anymore by the time you're 35. And I say have to work. Now, you'll probably be able to live any way you want by the time you're 45. But each of these steps is important. You have to learn, earn, And then own. All right? Now, a lot of people, they have a hard time walking away from the earn part, right? They get comfortable. They get that nice salary. They get the title. But you're never going to be completely independent until you own your own means of income, your business, because ownership is where the real wealth is built. Not in hours, not in salary, ownership. And once you own it, then you can start to implement other systems like one I call the FAST method. Focus for the F is basically eliminating everything that doesn't move the needle. You see, most people are busy but not productive. So we wanna focus on the 20% that drives 80% of the results. The A in FAST stands for automation. We can build systems that run without you, use AI, use software, use tools. The goal is to basically try to remove yourself from the day-to-day operations. The S is shift. Move from being in the business to being on the business, right? Working on strategy, not the tasks. Be the architect, not the worker. And then finally, the T in FAST is time. Then we can reclaim our most valuable asset, time. Time freedom. That's the goal. That's the ultimate goal for everybody. Because once you have time freedom, wealth becomes inevitable. All right. Now rule number 4 is, uh, so important. It should probably be rule number 1, but we're going to put it here at number 4. And that is to accumulate real money. I'm not talking about dollars. Dollars are paper. Paper is the money of slaves. Gold is the money of the free. Bitcoin is the money of the future. So when you look throughout human history, gold's been money because it's scarce, right? It's durable. It can't be inflated away by central banks. But Bitcoin, Bitcoin takes everything gold does and then it makes it even better. You can't carry $1 million in gold across a border, but you can carry $1 billion in Bitcoin in your head with 12 words. Now, Bitcoin isn't just an investment, it's the ultimate opt-out. It's money that can't be inflated away, it can't be confiscated, it can't be controlled. It takes the foundation of their system, money, but it gives it back to us. But we don't need permission, we don't need any central control, and no inflation can take it. So here's what I do. I stack a little bit of gold, I stack even more Bitcoin, and I don't think of them as investments. As I said earlier, I think of them as my savings account. All right, this gives me a It gives me a more passive mindset, uh, a more long-term mindset. And finally, rule number 5, borrow in bad money and invest in good assets. All right? This is what we call a speculative attack. It's what separates what the wealthy do from everybody else. Here's how it works. Inflation punishes savers, but it rewards borrowers. If you borrow at say 4%, but your money compounds at 12 or 20 or 50%, Getting paid to borrow. Let me give you a historical example of this. In the 1920s, back in Germany during the Weimar Republic, there was massive inflation. It was like the textbook example of hyperinflation. There was this guy named Hugo Stinnes. Now, at the time, hyperinflation was destroying the German mark, their currency at the time. So what'd he do? Well, he borrowed as much of the failing German mark as he could get his hands on, and then he used that those loans to buy factories, to buy gold, to buy commodities, to buy businesses, assets that were going up in value. He became one of the richest men in the world at the time. Fast forward to today, we can see Michael Saylor's basically doing the same thing with MicroStrategy, or now Strategy. He's borrowing dollars at 5% to 10%, and then he's buying Bitcoin that's appreciating at 50% per year. Since 2020, he's turned his company Strategy into one of the most profitable companies, one of the best-performing stocks in the world. He'll probably become one of the richest men in the world doing this. Now, you might be thinking, Mark, I'm not a billionaire. I can't do that.
Yes, you can. Here's how.
Buy a rental property, maybe get a 30-year mortgage on it, say at 6% or 7%. Use the tax depreciation, write off your income so you can keep more of your money that you would've given to the government. And then you can use that money to buy Bitcoin. Then you can let the tenant pay off the property, use the cash flow that you're getting to dollar-cost average into more Bitcoin. Then you can refinance, pull equity out tax-free, and you can do it again. That's how I used real estate to buy 10 times more Bitcoin than most crypto investors ever will. You're borrowing in dollars that are losing value, and you're buying assets that are gaining value. You borrow weak, you buy strong. That's the whole game. So there you have it, 5 rules. Rule number 1, never borrow anything that won't make you richer. Rule number 2, save at least 50%, but save in real assets. Rule number 3, get on the revenue side of a growing business. Rule number 4, accumulate real money, gold, and Bitcoin. Rule number 5, borrow in the bad money, invest into good assets. Now, once you understand these rules, maybe I should say once you actually implement these 5 rules, you stop being a pawn in the game. You start becoming the player. But knowing the rules isn't enough. You have to apply them. And so now that you know the rules, now you know how the system keeps you poor, and now you know what the wealthy do differently, right? You understand that this isn't just about money. It's about the game of money. You see, as I said earlier, most people are playing a game they don't even understand, right? They follow the rules, they work harder, they pay their taxes, and they wonder why they can't get ahead. But the game was never meant for you to win the game. The only way to win is to change the game entirely. Now, that's what I call building your wealth operating system. You see, in life, sort of like your phone, your iPhone, right? Your phone has this operating system that's built into it, and that manages all the apps and keeps everything running smoothly. But most people, they're running their life with no operating system. There's no plan.
There's no system.
There's no strategy. They're just reacting to whatever comes their way. The wealth operating system is your personal engine that flips the rules into your favor, and it has 3 3 core engines that work together. Engine number 1 is the time engine, right? This is where you reclaim your time using the FAST method, right? Because if you don't control your time, you don't control your life. Engine number 2 is then the income engine. This is where you optimize how money flows in, how you eliminate financial leaks, how you restructure debt, how you engineer tax efficiency, how you make every dollar coming in work as hard as possible. And then engine number 3 is then the wealth engine. And this is where you multiply wealth using the velocity strategy, making every dollar do 2 jobs, 3 jobs, 5 jobs. And when you have all 3 of these engines, when they're all running in sync, that's when wealth becomes inevitable. Now, I learned all this the hard way, right? In 2008, when I was 28 years old, I had already built and sold multiple companies, right? I thought I was set. Multimillion-dollar real estate portfolio. I was rich. Then the market collapsed. And overnight, I went from feeling rich to being in the hole, being broke, right? I had no cash flow. I was overleveraged. I had no exit plan. I basically burned my entire financial house down. It sucked. But that taught me the most valuable lesson of my entire career is that I need a system. I need diversification. I need cash flow. I need an exit plan. That's why I built the Wealth Operating System. You don't have to learn the hard way like I did. If you want to see how these types of strategies apply to your own specific situation, if you'd like my team to walk through your numbers like I just showed here and help you build a personalized Wealth Operating System, just go ahead and scan that QR code on the screen right here or the link in the description, put it in your application, then come Right back.
At 28 years old, I thought I cracked the code to financial freedom. After 2 high-value exits, I retired early, invested in rental properties, and I thought the money would just roll in without lifting a finger. But I couldn't have been more wrong. Instead of living the dream, I found myself drowning in debt, legal battles, tenant issues, endless management headaches. And when I tried to scale, I lost big— more money than I'd like to admit—
and I lost years of my time.
But here's the thing. Those mistakes taught me one truth about passive income that nobody wants to admit. It's not about no work, it's about the right work. And once I figured that out, everything changed. Today I manage 3 8-figure businesses. I have multiple equity deals, and I still find time to travel about once a month with my family. I work out every day. I surf a few times a week. And so in this video, I'm going to show you the exact blueprint I I use to create massive streams of passive income with less stress, less risk, and way more freedom. This is the blueprint for massive passive income. All right, let me show you how to achieve what you wanted, but it's just not the way that you thought it was going to go. Now, it didn't go the way I thought it was going to go.
I thought I had cracked the code.
Here I was, I remember, 20, 21 years old, dreaming about having enough passive income coming in so I wouldn't have to work again. I was going to do that through having a bunch of rental properties. I had like 2 at the time.
And that was my path.
And so I built up a couple different businesses. I kept buying more real estate, more real estate, more real estate. And I had this dream of I just sell my businesses, I have enough money, I go buy a bunch of properties, and then, you know, money just shows up in my bank account every month and I could just be sitting on the beach every day. That's what I wanted. I chased the dream. And so I did. I built up 2 businesses that were crushing it. They made a lot of money, really good returns. They ran really good. I didn't have to work a whole lot. But But again, like, I still had to work. I still had to go to an office. And so I thought that wasn't for me. So I sold those off, 2 big exits. I ended up buying a lot of real estate. And what I found out is my dream that I had been planning on for now 6, 7, 8 years became a nightmare for me.
And I learned a lot.
And what I'm going to break down for you is exactly that. I want to tell you more about this story. Here's me, old, or I should say young me, a long time ago before I Got all the stress of having to deal with that. But here's what I learned. Let me tell you why this revelation happened. But I learned that passive income is really a myth. All passive income is a myth. And here's why. The passive dream was not really passive at all. And as a matter of fact, life isn't meant to be lived passively, right? We should be in control. We should be driving.
We should always go into where we want to go, not living passively.
But listen, whether you think that the passive dream is like dividend stocks— so I owned a lot of dividend stocks and they just pay me every month or quarterly distributions, or maybe Again, like my dream was real estate. I have all these rental properties and they give me money or whatever other area you think of passive income.
They're not.
They're not passive. And here's why. Really, all income requires some work. So really what we have is the income to work spectrum. That's really what we have.
We have more income and more work over here, and we have less income and less work over here.
It's a spectrum. So once I understood that, then everything started to shift for me. So let me show you what I mean, and then I'll show you exactly how to really take advantage of this because it's not what you're thinking right now. Okay, so the spectrum of passive income is a work ratio. So on one side we have more work. And so on more work over here, I have the business, like the businesses that I sold that were making me 50% to 100% returns. But I had to work, right? I had employees, I had to manage and things like that. Over on the other end, I have less work. And I might say probably the lowest amount of work over here would be I own like US Treasuries or own like dividend-paying stock. And I'm making 3%, 4% on that. Alright, so that's the least amount of work. And then everywhere in between, I have rental properties, 5% to 25%, you know, interest on notes on loans that I make, you know, private money, 5% to 12%, royalties on things I created, 5% to 15%. So this is a spectrum. But here's the thing, again, all of this requires work. So for example, you're gonna have dividend-paying stock, It's probably the least amount of work. But not really. That's the ongoing work. But think about the amount of work that it takes to get into it. Now, if you've never owned dividend-paying stock, you have an entire education gap that you have to go figure out. What are dividend-paying stocks? How do they pay? How do I reinvest? How do I compound? Which ones should I buy? You buy the wrong dividend-paying stock, it goes down in value more than the payments it's making you. So now you have all this risk. And then, so I have all this work up front to learn what to do, how to do it, study all the different stocks, learn what they all are. Then I have to buy, I have to set them in an account, I have to get the money, I have to reinvest the money, I have to do all that. And then I have to watch them like a hawk and make sure they're not dropping. I have to look at the news headlines. I have all this management to make sure that they don't lose money more than they're making me. That is not no work. That is work. That's a lot of work upfront and still a decent amount of work to manage that. Rental property is the same way. I ended up buying a whole bunch of rental properties, but now I had all these tenants and moving out and moving in and had maintenance issues. I had landlord issues. Then all of a sudden, okay, so you just hire property managers, but then you hire property managers. Yeah, it's all still work. Just like having a business, I had employees and I had to manage all that. So it's all work. It all comes down to how much work you want to do and more importantly, what type of work you want to do. But really, there's a bigger piece to this, all right, that blows this all wide open. It's not just that simple. Let me explain in my story so you can understand what I'm talking about. Now real quick, before I tell you how to solve all this, let me tell you where I went wrong and see if this makes sense to you. So this was my costly mistake. So I had my businesses and I built them up and I was able to, you know, still have a fun life. I was able to run multiple businesses at the same time, still do my real estate. But again, I had this thought that I was supposed to sell the businesses to buy real estate. And so what I wanted to do was I wanted to escape my business. Okay. Why? Well, because, you know, I had to show up there a couple of times a week to make sure people were there working. And that wasn't passive, right? I wanted to be doing nothing.
and have money coming in.
So that was the scam. That was the lie I'd been sold. So what happened is I decided to sell my business. One of them went to a Fortune 500 company. And what was very interesting about that is I had to work for them for a little bit through the transition. And they put somebody on top of me, sort of over my business. And I told them, hey, I didn't want to be coming in. I didn't want to manage these couple of things. And they said, no worries. We're going to make sure within the next 30 days you don't have to do any of that anymore. And I'm like, so these things that I don't really like about the business, the reason why I sold the business in the first place, even though it makes me a really crazy amount of money, but I didn't want to do these couple things, you're saying that within the next 30 days I won't have to do those anymore?
Like, yeah.
I'm like, well, how though? Because I haven't been able to figure that out. I said, oh, well, we're going to put this system here, this system here, this system here, this reports to this, this comes into this report, and you don't have to do any of that. So I sold the business that made me a crazy amount of money Because the few things I had to do, I didn't want to do anymore. I thought I could have this passive life, but then they showed me how to automate and get rid of all those tasks in like the first couple months. So I sold this high-grossing business, high-profitable business, when all I had to do was the things they taught me to do. But I didn't know that, but it gets even worse. So I was in a very low-risk and high-income business. My business I had for this one particular, I think I had for 6 or 7 years. been in that industry for even longer. I knew everything about this high-tech medical equipment space. That's what it was, high-tech medical equipment company. I knew everything about it. I had the business for a really long time.
It made lots of money.
There was almost no risk because I knew so much. I had so much expertise there, and it made a really high income. It was great. But then I sold all of that. I sold the business. I took all the money, and then I went and jumped into investments that I knew nothing about. So now I went to large multifamily real estate, which put me in high risk. So with all the money that I got, I couldn't just go buy a bunch of single families. That would have been way too much work. So I'm going to go to large multifamily. I bought a building like this right here. It was 200 units. It was in Atlanta, Georgia. I'm in California. What do I know about real estate in Atlanta, Georgia, in the projects?
Not much.
Then I got to go to Georgia all the time. I got to work with partners on the ground there that I don't even know. I don't even have experience with. It was a nightmare. So I went from low risk, high income to now high risk and low income. But the problem was the amount of risk that I went into. I didn't know about all these unforeseen risks that caused me a nightmare, a headache. And it went from having like almost passive income in my business to now having another job where I'm on the plane flying back and forth trying to set all these things up, a whole new set of risks that cost me a lot of money. I'm talking like a crazy amount of money. This deal worked out terrible for me. And here's the thing. All I had to do was use the blueprint that the company that bought me used, and I could have had the business and done very little. Remember, all, all work, all income requires some work. There's no such thing as truly passive. As much as I have to manage my dividend-paying stocks or manage my real estate, I could have had the business with no risk and high income. All I had to do is use the systems. All right? That was the key. I had to use the systems. So for example, if I want to have a bunch of rental properties, that's fine. But I don't want to have all these property managers calling me all the time and all these different tenant issues. So I need to set up systems for that. Systems just like they showed me when I sold my business, the business system. So what I do is I map everything out like this. So for example, I want to know, how do I acquire customers?
So they see an Instagram post, they click on it, then where do they go?
They go to a website. Then what do they do?
They put their email in and then what?
They get this email back. And then what? They're asked to book a call and then what happens? Well, then somebody gets on the phone with them. So I map out the flow of how do customers get into my business. And once I can map this out, then I can come up with each individual task that has to be done with each one. And then I can just have somebody else do it. I create a perfect system and have someone else follow it. So I do this for every way I acquire people. Then I think about, well, how do I fulfill? So let's say that they do sign up. Well, So they signed up. Then what happens? Well, they received an email with their login information.
Then what?
Then they log in. And then what?
Well, then they watch a welcome video. And then what?
And then someone contacts them to book an onboarding call. And then what? So I map out every piece of the business and it's pretty simple. Now the thing is, you can have this passive income today because remember, it's really not necessarily passive. All income requires some work. So the key is, how can I take what I'm doing now and reduce the workload so I don't have to work as much So I can get more work done. Well, what we want ultimately is leverage over your work, right? That's really what we want. And what we can do is, as I said, even if you start a business today, a pressure washing business, a painting business, you could literally go knock doors on the weekend, find pressure washing customers. You could create a system of, I knocked the door, here was a script I used, here's how I went and pressure washed it, here was the checklist I did, here's how I collected money, and you can go hire people to run the pressure washing business for you. You could do this right away. No matter where you're at. Now, some of you might say, well, that doesn't work for me because in my business I can't hire people to do these things because I don't make enough money. Well, here's what I'd say about that. Number one, if you can't hire someone to do the work, you don't really have a business. You just have like a job that doesn't sound like it's very high paying. But number two, what I would say is even if I went and knocked the doors, found the customers, had to buy the equipment, and then I hired someone to run that process for me, sure. maybe they take the majority of that income. I only get a little bit for sort of managing it and overseeing it. But here's the thing, compared to the what, 3% that you're going to make in dividend-paying stocks or the, you know, 5% to 8% that you're going to make in rental real estate, you're going to make way more.
And so here's the thing, right?
We think about, if we think about passive income as a spectrum, I could take a business like pressure washing or painting houses or whatever and hire people and still probably make 10%, 12%, which is double, quadruple what I could make in these businesses. And if I set the systems right, it can be just as passive. And honestly, it can probably be even more passive than managing dividend-paying stocks. Now, once you start going with this, here's where the real magic happens. You see, once I can get someone else doing a lot of the work, once I can get the system optimized, then I can start to scale up. So in the beginning, you know, you're only making your 10% because you've had to hire people to Things like that. But once you have this going, it allows you to scale the business up. All right? This is how I do it. So this right here, as a matter of fact, is a snapshot of some of the content engines that we have in my business. Each one of these is a different engine. These are some of the acquisition engines that we have in the business right here. Here's some of the fulfillment engines that we have. And so we start mapping these out for each part of the business so then we can start assigning this to different people. We map the engines and then we can scale the team. This is how I'm able to manage 3 different businesses at the same time. It's how I have other companies that I advise for and we're able to scale those as well. You have to learn how to create the engines of wealth, create the systems, and this is what I learned from selling my business. I already had the business that was mostly passive. All I was lacking was a couple core systems that the Fortune 500 company that bought me helped me install in the first couple of months. I was free. If I had only known that before I sold the business, but I didn't.
But you know it now. Okay.
Now the thing is though, is as I said earlier, really life is not about being passive. Life is about driving to what we want. So what is it that you really want? What do you want your life to look like? Do those things. It's not about sitting on the beach and doing nothing. It's about doing meaningful work. And really it's not freedom from having to do work that you want. What you really want is freedom to work on meaningful things, productive things, things that light us up, things that bring us energy. So that is the goal. Now today, I'm able to run the different businesses, advise different businesses. I travel about once a month with my family to remote destinations. I go around the world and speak on some of the biggest stages because I like that, because it builds my skillset. It allows me to grow into a greater sense of purpose for myself.
But you could choose whatever it is for you.
But either way, passive income is sort of a scam. All income requires work. It just depends on how much work do you want to do for how much income. And what I learned is choose the ones that bring you the most income, but put the systems in place so you can do the least amount of work. All right. That's what we got. Leave a comment. Let me know what you think about this video. Do you want more videos like this on business systems?
Is that helpful for you? Let me know.
If so, I'll make them. Otherwise, that's what I got. To your success.
I'm out.
