Mark Moss lost 27 BTC to an exchange hack, had a phone wallet compromised, and got locked out of a cold wallet after a firmware update. He now spreads holdings across hardware wallets, multisig setups, and custodial platforms like River and Coinbase.
I've had a lot of Bitcoin taken from me. I had 27 Bitcoin taken out of my exchange. I had Bitcoin taken off of a hot wallet on my phone. I plugged in one of my cold wallets and it wouldn't let me do anything with it until I updated it, but I couldn't find the PIN. So from the beginning, I've always thought, you know what, I'm going to split it up across multiple hardware wallets. Diversify. I run a multisig wallet with multiple hardware wallets, and I also keep Bitcoin on River. I also keep Bitcoin on Coinbase. I also have some on Venmo. I've started to get kind of Bitcoin everywhere, not because I'm storing it there necessarily, but like maybe for some transactions I've paid in or whatever.
