Welcome back, my valued listeners, to another episode of Living in Your Power. I'm your host, Marlene Greenleaf, and today I want to take you on a little trip down memory lane with this episode entitled Remember When. I want to talk to you about the cost of things, technology improvements, the evolution of movies, and how life has changed. Changed in general over the years, but most importantly, let's discuss how we can embrace change, whether we think it's good or bad, so we can continue living in our power. Change is constant, right? Think about it for a second. Remember when you could go to the movies, grab popcorn, a drink, and still have money left over from a $10 bill? I'm— we're not— now I'm old, I know that, but I know you can remember that. I know you can remember that. But how about when a gallon of gas didn't cost more than a few bucks? I remember we can get gas for like $1.99. I thought that was expensive. We remember those simpler, less expensive times and how we look around and everything seemed to cost more, sometimes a lot More. Let's start with something we all notice— the cost of things. Do you remember when you could buy a loaf of bread for under a dollar? In the late '90s, that was the reality. Fast forward to today, and you'll be lucky to find it for less than $3 in most places. With the fancy breads that we have now, you can pay up to $8 for a A loaf of bread. Who, who would have thought? And it's not just food. How about movie tickets? They used to be $4 or $5 in the '90s. Now, depending on where you live, you might pay up to $20, $30 for just a ticket, not including snacks. Gas prices are another big change. Do you remember paying under $2 a gallon? It feels like a lifetime ago, but that was just a few years back. These changes can feel overwhelming and frustrating at times, but here's the truth: while the cost of living increases, so do opportunities. There are always ways to adapt, shift, and grow, even when external factors make life more challenging. The key to navigating these changes is to focus on what you can control and make adjustments accordingly. Maybe it means being more intentional about your spending or finding joy in the simpler things. Whatever it is, remind yourself that change is a part of life, and you have the power to thrive through it. Now let's talk about technology. Oh, how times have changed. I remember when cell phones were the size of a brick, literally, and used for calling and nothing else. Or when the internet first became widely available and we were using dial-up, waiting what seemed like forever for a web page to load. Man, those were the days when technology was exciting but limited in what it could do. Now fast forward to today, we have smartphones that fit in our pockets, giving us access to the world in seconds. We can video chat with someone on the other side of the world in real time, stream movies and music with no interruption, and even control appliances in our homes with just our voice. The progress is mind-blowing. Let's not, let's not forget ChatGPT. Let's not forget ChatGPT. But while technology has enhanced our lives in many ways, it's also brought its own challenges. With constant connection comes burnout, overstimulation, and the pressure to keep up with the latest trends. So how do we navigate this? Embracing the positive aspects of technology while setting healthy boundaries is crucial. Use the advancement— use these advancements to your advantage, but don't let them control you. Be intentional about how and when you use technology, making sure it adds value to your life rather than becoming a distraction from what matters most. Now let's move on to movies and entertainment. Remember when going to the movies was an event? You get excited for the latest blockbuster, grab some snacks, and sit in those not-so-comfy seats ready for whatever adventure was about to unfold. Back in the day, Disney animated classics were the pinnacle of family entertainment, and action movies were all about practical effects with explosions that felt real and intense. But nowadays, movies are filled with CGI, streaming services have taken over, and people often choose to watch the latest release from the comfort of their homes on their couch rather than going to the movie theater. Now, while it's easy to feel nostalgic for those good old days, let's not forget that these changes in entertainment have opened doors, giving us more access to a wider variety of films and shows than ever before. You can now experience a world of cinema from your living room, and independent creators have platforms to share their work globally, something that wasn't possible before. The evolution of entertainment reminds us that while things may not look the way they used to, The changes bring more new possibilities. So instead of longing for what was, let's remember to embrace the new. Find joy in exploring the endless options we have today and recognize that change is a part of life's adventure. So here's the big takeaway for today. My valued listeners, change, whether it's in the form of rising costs, technological advancement, social norms, or shifting entertainment trends, is inevitable. Some of it is good, some of it feels bad, but all of it is an opportunity for growth. The world is going to keep evolving. And we get to decide how we respond to it. Do we resist and let it frustrate us, or do we embrace it, adapt, and live in our power? I encourage you to look at the changes happening around you not as obstacles but as stepping stones. Life is all about navigating the ups and downs with grace, wisdom, and intention. Even when it feels overwhelming, remember, you have the power to choose how you react. Embrace the new experiences, the advancements, and the challenges, because in so doing, you are choosing to grow. So as we close today's episode, I want to remind you to take a moment to reflect on the changes in your own life And let's not forget the power we hold within to embrace those changes and live authentically in our evolving world.
