In this solo episode of the Living in Your Power podcast, host Marleen Greenleaf explores how shifting one’s perspective can transform personal and professional life. She opens with a career anecdote about being removed from her HR responsibilities at a startup, choosing to resign, and recognizing the situation as an opportunity for growth. Greenleaf then outlines practical steps for changing perspective: cultivating mindfulness to observe thoughts without judgment, challenging limiting assumptions, and seeking diverse viewpoints to broaden empathy. She intertwines these strategies with a spiritual dimension, describing "walking by faith"—trusting the journey and aligning actions with biblical teaching (James 2:26) that faith without works is dead. The episode concludes with a reflective prompt for listeners to identify an area where a perspective shift could be transformative, encouraging them to embrace new viewpoints, trust in faith, and live authentically in their power. The episode ends with typical podcast calls to subscribe, review, and share.

Welcome, dear listeners, to another insightful episode of Living in Your Power, a podcast where we explore the journey of empowerment and self-leadership. I'm your host, Marleen Greenleaf, and today I would like to guide you through a transformative understanding of how changing our perspective Can ultimately change our lives. Today's episode is dedicated to the power of perspective. So let's dive in. Perspective—it's a simple word, but it holds the key to unlocking our greatest potential. Have you ever wondered how two people can experience the same situation in? Entirely differently? It's all about perspective. Our perspective shapes our reality, our decisions, and ultimately the course of our lives. Let me share a story with you. Early in my career, I encountered a challenging situation. This, of course, was not the first, nor would it be the last challenging situation. But in this situation, I was working for a startup IT firm and helped them to develop their HR, payroll, and administrative process. And I did this successfully for about 3 years. Then suddenly, the responsibilities of the HR department was removed from my job description and given to a friend of the family who had no training or experience in this field. And to top it off, I was asked to train her on the processes that I developed for the firm. Now, at first I felt defeated and questioned my abilities, wondering why was this happening? Did I do something wrong? How can I fix this? Blah blah blah. This initially, this initially seemed like an insurmountable obstacle at the time. But when I shifted my perspective, viewing it not as a barrier, but as an opportunity for growth, everything changed. Because then I realized it's like, this is not about me. I know what my— I know what I bring to this organization. I know what I did to help develop this firm. So I handed in my resignation. and moved on with my career. Now, this shift didn't just help me overcome that challenge, but it transformed the way I approached my entire life going forward. So how do we shift our perspective? It starts with awareness. We must recognize our current viewpoint and understand our origins Are we seeing things through a lens of fear, doubt, or past experiences? Now, once we understand this, we can begin to consciously alter our perspective. So let's talk about some practical steps. Firstly, practice mindfulness. I harp on this, I would think, probably in every episode, every other episode. But mindfulness is so important because mindfulness allows us to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment. So this awareness creates a space for new perspective to emerge. Secondly, challenge your assumptions. Ask yourself, why do I think this way? Is there another angle I haven't considered? You have to be able to put yourself first. Don't doubt your abilities. Don't question what you can and cannot do because of a situation, because someone says that you can't. Know your worth. And thirdly, seek diverse viewpoints. Engaging with people who see the world differently broadens our own perspective, enriching our understanding and empathy. I want to share another principle that has been pivotal in my journey. It is the concept of walking by faith. Now, walking by faith to me means trusting the journey even when we can't see the entire path. It's about believing in our power to thrive regardless of our current circumstances. In the Bible, at James 2:26, it states, for as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. So when we walk by faith, true faith in Christ always produces good works. Stand on your faith, trust God, and trust the process. So when we combine the power of perspective with walking by faith, we unlock a powerful synergy, and this synergy empowers us to move past fears and live authentically in our power. So to close today's episode, I want you to take a moment, reflect on an area of your life where a shift in perspective could be transformative. Imagine the possibilities that could unfold if you viewed this part of your life with fresh eyes and with faith and empowerment. I want to thank you for joining me on this journey today, and I hope this episode on perspective has inspired you to live more authentically in your power.
