Governments could confiscate crypto like they did gold in 1933, forcing sales at fixed prices. Keeping crypto on exchanges or in banks means custodians control it. Self-custody through hardware wallets like Ledger, Trezor, or Tangem keeps your assets truly yours.

Will they one day confiscate your crypto, and can they do that? Well, a lot of people don't know, but in 1933 they confiscated everyone's gold. They basically made it illegal to own gold, and they forced you to sell it to the Federal Reserve for like $20, and then they boosted the price to like $30. So can this happen to crypto? It could. Like, they could try it. They could try seize everyone's crypto or make it illegal for for you to own crypto. But one of the main ways to protect against this is self-custody, owning your crypto, true ownership over your crypto where you are self-custodying it. When you put your crypto into an exchange, you no longer own that crypto, they do. Same thing with the bank. When your money's in the bank, they own your money. They're doing something with your money behind your back. They're loaning it out, they're making a yield on it, Same exact thing. You need to self-custody your crypto. I use Tangem, Arculus. You can use Ledger, Trezor, Ellipal. All of these different companies, they basically make the same thing. They make hardware crypto wallets where you can safely secure, uh, your crypto assets.
