Matt Britton's short monologue outlines how Amazon is expanding its share of consumer retail spend by integrating delivery and access technologies—notably the Ring smart doorbell (acquired), Amazon Hub lobby lockers, and Prime Air drone delivery—making e-commerce more seamless (including in-home delivery) and raising concerns among major packaged-goods companies.
What Amazon's going to be doing to actually capture more of the share of spend from their prime consumers is really fascinating. They just bought a company called Ring which is a smart doorbell company and when you push on the doorbell video of their face will pop up on your phone. With Amazon owning it, you as a consumer will now be able to automatically give Amazon delivery people rights to actually go into your home and drop the package off for you even if you're not there, making the notion of E commerce that much easier. If you live in a doorman building, they have something called Amazon Hub that goes in lobbies where you can push in a code and actually grab your Amazon stuff almost like a larger version of a mailbox. And of course we've all heard about Amazon Prime Air which they run patents for to have drones deliver stuff in the consumer's houses. So as you can imagine, major packaged goods companies are really starting to fret what's happening in this retail era.
