TV advertising is heading toward targeted ads like Facebook, where different viewers see different commercials during the same broadcast. A local pizza shop could get a Super Bowl ad slot, and brands can finally target women instead of just masculine audiences. The question is where giants like Procter & Gamble and Nike will shift their budgets once this happens.
If NFL is the biggest watch program amongst male and female viewers, then why is every single ad I see these masculine ads like GMC trucks? Because there's more males than females, but still the biggest opportunity to target females. So what if you could target females during the NFL? Isn't that a novel concept? Targetability and addressability could allow Joe's Pizza to advertise every single person who lives within one mile of my location. And. And all of a sudden, Joe's Pizza is running during the Super Bowl. It's the same thing that's going on in Facebook right now. But the only difference is it's the future of tv. And I don't think it's that far away. When Apple came out with the ipod, all of a sudden CDs went out. When streaming happened with Netflix, DVDs were gone. It happened quickly. And when it happens, what happens to Proctor and Gamble and Nike and Microsoft and Coke when they want to write these gigantic checks that were normally reserved for NBC and CBS and ABC and fox? Where's the money going to go to.
