Speaker argues that modern celebrities are transforming television by using social platforms (Snapchat, Instagram Live) to monetize and reach massive, unscripted audiences. Examples given include DJ Khaled leveraging Snapchat with only a phone and Justin Bieber attracting hundreds of thousands of live viewers, suggesting social live video may be the next iteration of TV.

A lot of celebrities, modern day celebrities, are starting to take note. You obviously all know what DJ Khaled did on Snapchat. He basically uses his audience to obviously monetize. He has no network, he has no production crew. All he has is his phone. And obviously, we know that's him lathering up. He gets paid for that. To obviously introduce the product, capturing scale, because he's showcasing his real life, but also pushing brands. And then Instagram Live is sort of the next iteration. And you have people like Justin Bieber chewing gum and see the numbers going up, 146,000, 148,000. It goes up to 200,000 people seeing him chew gum. This isn't scripted. This isn't promoted yet. It has more eyeballs and a bigger audience than most syndicated TV networks. So when you think about the future of tv, as scary as it may be, you actually may be looking at it right here.
