A short spoken monologue arguing that the largest corporate-cultural shift will occur once Millennials fill C-suite roles. The speaker notes that current executives (Gen X and older) still make decisions informed by mid-1990s cultural reference points and predicts meaningful disruption when Millennial executives—who grew up with different media/consumption habits—assume top leadership.
I don't think the difference between Millennials and Gen Z is going to be nearly as stark and nearly as disruptive as the change from Gen X to Gen Y. And what really fascinates me is that millennials still have not filled up the C Suite yet. You still have C suite people, CMOs, for instance, that are golfing buddies with the CEO of a Madison Avenue agency, making decisions in a 1995 world like we're tuning into Must See TV on Thursday night to watch Seinfeld and Friends and Cheers. But that's not the world we live in anymore. But the reason that the world hasn't shifted is that most major organizations, those decision makers, did not grow up with eating out of the household. But once that changes, once the Millennial generation fills the C Suite, I think all this disruption that myself and everybody in this room says, why isn't it there already? I think that's when you actually really start to see the disrupt.
