The video from Benefits Medicare (Piedmont Insurance Services) provides a comprehensive overview for seniors approaching Medicare eligibility. It compares the two most popular Medicare Supplement plans—Plan G and Plan N—detailing how each handles deductibles, copays, and coverage of provider charges. The presentation then explains Medicare Advantage plans, highlighting their added dental, vision, and OTC benefits but also warning about potential out‑of‑pocket costs and regional variations. A decision framework is offered, contrasting the "pay now" approach of Medicare Supplements with the "pay later" nature of Advantage plans, and suggesting that beneficiaries save the supplement premium to fund a Health Savings Account, Hospital Indemnity, or chronic‑condition plan. The speaker stresses the mandatory Part D drug‑plan enrollment within 90 days of starting Part A, describing the lifetime penalty for late enrollment. Additional guidance covers supplemental options for those with Medicare‑Medicaid, and the video concludes with a call‑to‑action, inviting viewers to submit their information or call a dedicated phone line for personalized assistance.

Welcome to Benefits Medicare, a company of Piedmont Insurance Services. We assist in helping seniors plan for their retirement. Comparing Medicare supplements can be a great task to take on. That's why we look at Plan G and Plan N as the two most popular plans available when turning 65 or starting Medicare Part B. Both plans require you to pay Medicare's Part B deductible. After that deductible is met, The major difference between Plan G and Plan N. Plan G starts to pay at 100% of the Medicare-approved amounts that are left over from the provider's charges. Plan N will have copays up to $20 for doctor visits, with excess charges from non-participating Medicare providers. Plan N also has an outpatient emergency copay of $50. If admitted from the emergency room, the coverage occurs under Part A hospital, and Plan N will pay 100% of the emergency room visit. Supplements keep Medicare primary, which remains your network. It gives you the right to care once it is medically necessary. So, scheduling a test or procedure is simple and no prior authorizations needed to verify it will cover it on its timeline instead of your own. Medicare Advantage plans have gained popularity over the years due to dental, vision, and over-the-counter benefits. But what it covers could still leave out-of-pocket $7,000 on average due to out-of-network coverage. The Medicare Advantage market has grown over the years as prices of prescriptions have continued to soar and most seniors cannot budget in the cost of healthcare premiums. Most Advantage plans are built for the region you live in to cut costs and increase profits for the insurance companies. You can expect a decrease in benefits if the plan's reimbursement dollars are less or are not up to the expectations of the company's allotted overhead cost. The Advantage plans do not ask health questions but they use health assessments to verify your health circumstances. Most have to understand the coverage— a Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage are completely different types of benefit options available to you, and you cannot have them both at the same time. So, when deciding between a Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement, it is whether you pay now versus paying later. It is suggested to try and save the premiums you would normally spend each month for a supplement and put it— that money back when you will need it later. With that being said, you should try to supplement the Advantage plan with a Health Savings Account or Hospital Indemnity Plan with Cancer or a Chronic Condition Plan to cover higher costs. Medicare supplements do not come with a drug plan, and Medicare has mandated you have one in effect within 90 days of starting your Part A. There is a lifetime penalty enforced when you sign up for a plan late, and it is variable cost to you every year due to the average cost of the drug plans as a whole multiplied by 1% per month you have went without a drug plan, since you did not having a drug plan in force or in place for number of specified months.
