Ep116: The Problem Isn't Your Ads - It's That You're Still Running Them
20 Apr 2026 · 8 min
Matt Dart tells fitness coaches making $5K-$10K monthly that running their own Meta ads costs them $3,000 per week in lost billable time. An MMA coach in Melbourne turned $50 in ad spend into $800 clients. Dart offers coaching or managed ads to fix the bottleneck.

By you focusing on marketing, that is going to give you a return on investment of your time. But if you're not sure how to actually do it, then you're actually just throwing money down the track. But if you had the roadmap, maybe that goes down from instead of 20 hours a week down to 10, which saves you $1,500 a week. And you know, my obviously pricing is not $1,500 a week, so you got a significantly better return on investment for your time, right? This is the type of decisions that people that are above $10K per month make to fast-track their results. They're worried about time. People that are above $10K per month, they're making different types of decisions for people that are under $10K per month. Paid ads is how you're you're going to be able to get predictable results. What's going on, guys? Matt here from the PT Profit Leverage and Lifestyle Show. This is episode 116, uh, which is crazy to, to see how far we've come over the last couple years of doing the podcast every single week. So today's episode, uh, why your ads are working but the business still feels broken. So this is for people who are already running ads, perhaps you're not in a commercial gym, or maybe you are in a commercial gym and you're already doing around $10K per month, but you want to scale to between $30K and $50K per month. So as I said, you're probably playing around with some Facebook and Instagram ads or Meta ads, but you're getting a little bit overwhelmed with managing, managing it all yourself. Or perhaps you're maybe getting some results from the ads and you just don't have the time to manage it because the problem, the problem with people getting to $10K per month is you're still doing everything. You're still the marketer, you're still the salesperson, you're still doing all the delivery, you're still doing the program, you're still doing everything. So when you start to get to $10K per month, or when you do get to $10K per month, going to the next level requires you to, um, you know, either, either have a team or work with someone like me that might be able to help you with the ads. So some super exciting times for us actually. We're looking to, like, I, I love doing ads right now, so we're actually looking to take on a few businesses that are already doing pretty well and helping them scale with ads. So if you're doing, ideally you want to be doing around $10K per month, but if you at a bare minimum, you would even be doing $5K per month, like you need to spend a bit of money on ads, of course, then I'd invite you to have a conversation with me. I would run your ads for you to make sure they're profitable and show you how you can print money. Some clients' examples, Ibrahim, he's an MMA coach. In Melbourne. He only does paid ads. We're basically turning $50 into $700, $800. So basically he's spending $50 to get an $800 client. So he's basically just printing money. Another client of mine, Clint, he actually also does mosaic. He's in Adelaide. Ads for him, similar cost per client, like around $50 or $100, and that's turning into about $1,100 per client. So basically you're putting in $1, you're getting $10 back. Okay. So if you guys go to Keno or the pokies and you put in like $50, very rarely you get $50 back or even, you know, 10x, you don't get $500 or $5,000 or whatever. So this is how you can print money with ads. So I got a couple of topics that I want to go through today. But this is more specifically for people that are already doing well, that want to scale. Okay. So let's quickly go through the bottleneck that you're probably experiencing right now. The bottleneck isn't necessarily the ad itself, it's you having to run the ads because it takes a lot of time. You gotta do so much creatives, you gotta manage the ads pretty much every single day, and you're also doing the delivery. You're also, maybe you've got a little bit of a team as well. You're doing all the programming, you're doing all this stuff, you're doing all the social media content. There's a lot of stuff that you guys are working on, so maybe it's time to take that off your plate. Let's go through what The difference between a $10K per month fitness business and then a $30K or a $50K per month fitness business. And the difference is you essentially now start to come off the tools is the difference. So up until $10K per month, you can pretty much do everything yourself. You don't necessarily need anyone else, but if you wanna get to $30K a month, $50K a month, you cannot be on the tools. Well, you, you can't be fully on the tools, so you need to start to delegate. Some things off your plate, which, you know, could be the delivery, it could be the programming, it could be admin tasks. All that stuff is important, but we're specifically going to talk about the marketing side of things today. One thing that you want to ideally do when you're wanting to scale a business, you want it to be predictable. Now, a lot of people obviously go into the organic content side of things, which is great. Organic content does work. You still need it. But paid ads is how you're going to be able to get predictable results because once it works, it doesn't usually stop for, for a while. Okay, but if you're just doing organic marketing, then you got to work with the algorithm, which changes all the time. Now, the ads of course change, but you can easily find more winning creatives, more winning ad copy, more winning hooks, for example, that do the job. Okay, so the difference is there's two things. Obviously, we need to work on the business model in terms of what stuff you're actually doing, but two, we need to work out your marketing so it's predictable to be able to keep that income solid at around like that $30K, $50K per month. You're not going to be able to just do organic and stay at $30K or $50K per month. It's just not going to happen unless you've got a big audience, like hundreds of thousands of people already watching your stuff every single month. Okay, so you're going to need to do ads. The next thing I want to quickly touch on is the actual opportunity cost or the hidden cost of ad management when you're doing it yourself if you're not sure exactly how to do it. So if you're not sure how to run ads, it's more than likely going to take up 10, 15, 20 hours a week of your time. If you're thinking about like what your time is worth, I'm just gonna do super basic numbers for now. I'm just gonna say your, your PT sessions per hour is around $150, which is probably cheap, but let's just keep it at that. So $150 times 20 hours, that's $3,000 a week that you are potentially losing off the table by not utilizing your time. Now, of course, by you focusing on marketing, that is going to give you a return on investment of your time. But if you're not sure how to actually do it, then you're actually just throwing money down the track, or down the, down the toilet, essentially. If you were to use someone like me, or get someone to teach you how to do ads, for example— now, I can do either. I can either do it for you, or I can just teach you how to do ads. But if you had the roadmap, maybe that goes down from, instead of 20 hours a week, down to 10, for example, which saves you $1,500 a week. And, you know, My obviously pricing is not $1,500 a week. So you got a significantly better return on investment for your time, right? This is the type of decisions that people that are above $10K per month make to fast-track their results. They're worried about time, okay? They're trying to save money, they're trying to save time essentially. And then for example, if you were to perform the ads better, you would significantly make more money in the long run, okay? So all I'm trying to say is people that are above $10K per month They're making different types of decisions for people that are under $10K per month. I just want to make that super, super clear. And if you think about it, like, I just want to paint the picture here. If you imagine if you were kind of doing marketing for 20 hours a week plus doing a delivery, which you're probably doing 30, 40 sessions a week, which is 30 hours a week in sessions, that's 50 hours a week. Then you're also doing the admin, you're also doing the programming, you're also doing your social media content. So how much do you actually want to be working? Like getting to $10K per month is all about hustle. Now we're talking about anti-hustle and delegation and leverage, and that's what ads give you. So if you're either on the fence about running ads, but you're already doing around $10K per month, let's have a conversation because I want to do like 2 or 3 people like one-on-one stuff on how I can either teach you how to do ads or I can do it for you. Preferably I do it for you because I want to actually do a couple of case studies on this. So send me a message, just DM me the word like ads and I'll show you how it works. And if you're already doing $10K per month and you want to get to $30K or $50K per month, let's also have a conversation, especially if you're already running ads and it's taken up 10, 15, 20 hours of your time. So let's have a conversation. I'll leave it there. I'll see you guys next week for next episode. Peace out.
