Matt Dart breaks down the social media mix for fitness trainers: 80-90% value content answering audience questions, 10-15% testimonials, and 5-10% personal posts. Use AnswerThePublic to find what your audience is actually searching for.
Going on, everyone. Matt here for another podcast episode. So we're back, back from the hospital if you've been following along with the journey. And by the way, welcome to the PT Profit, Leverage and Lifestyle show. So super keen to be back. Those who don't know, we just had a baby boy last week. So yeah, everything's going really, really well. For those interested, for those who I don't message on a consistent basis, everything's going really, really well. So yeah, Jess and our little boy Archie is doing very, very well. So we're settling in nicely, but almost business as usual for me. I'm taking it a bit slow, which is still a pretty fast paced to be honest, but you know, super keen to keep the routine. I'm still obviously working with a lot of trainers in the industry, mentoring them and I'm still doing PT sessions myself. So they're pretty exciting topic for you guys today. Provide some more value. So we're going to talk about social media today and the three types of content that you should be posting online. And I'm going to give you some specific examples and I'll go through my social media as well to give you a bit of an idea of why I post the way I do. Then also I might even go into a few other Instagram or Facebook pages and kind of order them for you guys as well. But we're going to talk about the three types of content you should be posting. So let's get stuck into it. So the three things so you should only really be posting value testimonials and some personal stuff. So in all honesty, like I don't post too many personal things anymore. I kind of keep that pretty private. But I tend to like in terms of the split, I'd probably suggest 80%, 80% value, 10% testimonials and 10% personal. And if anything, maybe 15% testimonials, 5% personal. To be honest, the, the main part is you want to give, give, give, give, give. You want to provide the most amount of value out of anyone else in the industry because what happens subconsciously, and this happens with me as well, like if I'm, I see someone's content and like they, they can solve a problem for me for free, I'm subconsciously more willing or more likely to want to work with that person on a regular basis or pay that person because I know that they can solve my problem. So if you're super clear on who you target, and I'll go through my Instagram in a second, you'll notice that 80 to 90% of my content is value. I post a lot of stuff on about my podcast, obviously, which is all value, it's all free value. I'm giving you guys free stuff to build your business for free. Like if, if you like and in a Steve, if you just followed all my advice on my free content, you probably build a multiple six figure business without fail. But 99.99% of people don't do anything with it because they're not paying for anything. Because when people pay, they pay attention. So let me go back to my point. Value is the biggest thing that you want to be posting about. So whatever your client avatar is. So for example, if you're a trainer and you're focusing on how helping men build muscle, post stuff is going to help the audience. And you want to build your audience obviously that attract those type of people. So you want content that's going to bring those type of people into your following or into your audience on a regular basis. So if you are, you know, focusing on men, post stuff that's going, that men are going to look at. If you're, if you're helping people with, you know, nutrition, post some recipes, post some tips to get your protein intake in, post some tips to increase the water intake, post some tips to do this, post your workouts, post value. Give people value, solve their problems for free. Alex Hormozi does this the best in my opinion. He helps like literally businesses grow their business to the point where they're making I think over a million dollars in profit every single year. And all of his free content is designed to help people do that. And then it's the natural stepping stone for them to invest with him or he he to him to invest in your business to scale it past $1 million in profit. So he's got a super clear client avatar and he posts content to help those type of people. But the same thing with me, like if I might share my screen here and if you're not watching the video, I suggest you do so so you can see. But I'm just gonna go into my Instagram here and see what I've got. So I've got, I've got, I've got three pinned posts here. So I've got my, the launch of my podcast where I provide the most value I've got. And I've got two testimonial videos here. Now if we go through my feed, so we've got launch my podcast. I've got a personal post because I just had second baby Another podcast post. Then I've got a testimonial and then I' a snippet reel from one of my podcast episodes. Podcast episode again. And then I've done a post about the leveraged business models. Then I've got a personal post. Podcast, podcast, Podcast, Podcast. Personal. Podcast, podcast, podcast, podcast, podcast, Podcast, podcast, podcast. Oh no, not podcast, but giving value. So if you're not actually seeing the video, watching the video, sorry, let me just quickly explain it in a bit more detail. So I've got value personal value testimonial. Value, value, value personal. Like I don't have a specific structure which I suppose I could improve on that. But the majority of the posts are giving value. Look why your environment determines your success. The four step sales process framework to overcome any objection. The three systems that you need to run a successful face to face business. The three secrets to selling in the fitness industry. The three secrets to having a stable income as a PC. Then testimonial, how do you master your income? Sorry, how to master your mind and crush. Crush business and life. Then I got another testimonial. Look, we doubled your business in two weeks. Boom. All the stuff so you can see here, like go through my social media, 80 to 90, probably even 90% of it is value solving people's problems for free. And the wonder why, like I've been able to build my entire business of warm outreach or cold outreach, which is essentially no paid advertising. Like I've been playing around with paid advertising a little bit now I think I've maybe got one, maybe two more clients from paid advertising. All my other clients are from organic posting on social media, you know, having conversations with people. So as you can see there, majority of it is, is value. So when I say testimonials as well, team and apologies if you can hear my child screaming. So what I say about testimonials, what I mean is if you're, if you're a trainer. So let's say, let's say for, for example you're a face to face trainer. Do a before and after photo. Let's scroll back through, let's see what testimonials I used to post when I was a trainer because this would be interesting actually. Before and after photos. For and after photos. I've got photos of me training people. We've got photos of the team, we've got people doing deadlifts, we got body scan results. We got some social proof in the group classes, getting some stuff with the team. Giveaways, look, high protein meals. Boom. Four Ingredient chocolate pudding. This is the type of stuff that you should be posting team like, these are a lot of actually client testimonials, actually, so heaps of client testimonials, more social proof of what it's like to be a client of mine in the gym. Value, value. So in summary, I'll stop sharing. In summary, they're the three things that you should be posting. 80 to 90% of your posts should be about value. 10 to 15% should be testimonials to remind people of what the results are like with your paid services. And then 5 to 10% should be personal stuff. I personally don't believe you need a separate business page to your personal page. You've already got an audience that likes and trusts you on your personal page, so why should you have to start again from scratch to build up your audience? For me, when I first started mentoring other trainers, it was quite easy to get off the ground because I already knew people in the industry and they already knew my success. And more than likely if you're a trainer, they already know your success as, you know, building your physique or whatever you've done. So they probably, they already like and trust you. So leverage that. That's all I'm saying. So that's essentially what I was going to cover today. So just to recap the three types of content that you should be posting on social media, and by the way, there's, there's no set number of how many times you should be posting this type of stuff, but I would try and keep it to these percentages. So no matter if you post like once a week or once a day, I would stick to about 80 to 90% of value, 10, 15% testimonials, 5 to 10% of personal stuff. So a lot of other people post like a lot of memes and that type of stuff. But personally I don't, I don't think it's too professional. But like, if you want to build a really good business, then I would, I would focus on building the value you've got to give, give, give, give, give. If you want people to reach out to you and inquire about your services like they do with me, then you need to be able to solve people's problems for free. So just think about what can you post to solve people's problems for free? I'll give you a quick little tip here. And it might not load on my side, but if you go to a website called Answer the Public and you search some terms, actually let me see if I can do it for you right now. Enter the public. You can just do this for free. There's, there is a paid version, but just do the free one to start with. Let's type in that loss and it's going to tell you how many times people are actually searching for this and what they're actually searching. So let's have a quick look. Are phallos injections safe? Are fat loss pills safe? These are the type of questions people are googling. So you can search Google, you can search YouTube, you can search TikTok, you can search Amazon. Can fat loss cause constipation? Can fat loss reduce cellulite? These are all content ideas. This is what people are searching for. So give them, give them the information that they want and watch your business take off because they're going to reach out to you asking questions and more than likely they're going to be interested in your service or product. So why fat loss is difficult? Why fat loss is important? When does fat loss start? Where does fat loss occur? All these questions, it goes into so much detail. Fat loss of women, fat loss for men over 40 is a different client avatars you can have. If you go to answerthepublic.com it is a US website. Just make sure when you're searching it, search the US terms because you'll get a much better response in terms of data because obviously there's more people in the US searching these things. So it's quite interesting. So it's, it's good to have a bit of a look on what questions people are asking on Google and that's going to give you some ideas for content creation as well because you can literally just do a video on or do a post about every single one of these questions to provide more value. So that's it team. Thank you so much for tuning in. I hope you got some value from this episode. I am looking to get a few more guests on the podcast shortly, so if you know anyone that would be a good fit for me or for us, then please reach out. And I would love to get some more people involved on the podcast. That equally fun doing more episodes on my own as well. So I hope that helps with your social media. I might do a bit more of a dive into how to actually do the posts or how to structure them, but you guys obviously know your niche quite well. So if you can just solve their problems like identify what their pain points are, identify what their challenges are and solve those problems for free. 99% of people aren't going to take any action anyway because they're not paying for anything. But it's going to get people curious about your service and subcon. Subconsciously, they're going to want to work with you. So I'll leave it at that. Team, enjoy your day and I'll see you next week.
