Can I fix my home and be healthy here?

Matt Kelly, the Mold Man, explains whether you can stay healthy in a mold-affected home. It depends on your sensitivity and how bad the contamination is. Remediation costs range from $10,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and you need a professional evaluation first.

Sally's asking something that everybody wants to know. Some people ask it, some people don't. Some people know the answer. Some people truly are just looking for input. But Sally asked, can I stay in my home and make it work? Now, if she means can I stay in my home and not spend all the money on inspection or remediation, then probably not. Does she mean can I stay in my home and make it work in the sentence of get proper inspection, get proper remediation, do everything right, and with that lower stress load, will I be okay? You could entirely be okay. Now, as with almost everything I answer, there's a wide spectrum. There are people who are so mold sick that they've had their complete houses tore apart down to studs, and they go in to see it when it's that empty and they still react okay. There's, I think there's also a mental and emotional part to that, but they still react going in the home. So for some people, even a tear down, like complete remediation, like tear down to studs is not enough. But for a lot of people, they can get, you know, get the biggest water issues of mold sources inspected, remediated properly, and they're okay and they can stay there. So it all depends on your level of sensitivity. Are you one of those people that are super sensitive to everything, or are you like, hey, I just don't feel right. I have a little head pressure, my memory's bad, or got some brain fog. So there's a giant sliding scale of sensitivity that I refer to. And then it comes down to the house. Is it full of stachy and ketomium, or is it just a little bit of aspergillus and penicillium? Are they easily found and easily remediated, or is it like a systemic problem, from crawl space to attic kind of thing? Right. So can people stay in their home if their home is moldy and they're having symptoms? Usually not. Either you got to go or the house needs to be fixed. Can people stay if they're not too bad? Or even some people that can be really bad. With a proper remediation team, it can be done, but you could be tugged. Some remediation jobs might be 10,000. Some other ones I've heard of are 2, $300,000. So there's this just this wide spectrum to know. And hopefully, Sally, you're not overly sensitive and your house doesn't have extreme problems. I'm hoping that you're going to make out okay, but can you stay home and make it work? You can if everything is just right. Okay. I hope it works out for you.
