Matt Kelly explores whether mold and mycotoxins can trigger SIBO, a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. He explains how mold affects digestion and recommends the Gut Zoomer test for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Foreign. Gail is asking about mold and Sibo. So let's talk about mold and sibo. Can mold cause SIBO 100%. 100%. It's extremely common when I get clients, Gut Zoomers back, and there's a section on the Gut Zoomer specific about sibo. So Vibrant. I love Vibrant's Gut Zoomer. If you're getting a stool test, that's the only one to get it is it's better than GI map used to use GI map for gut zoomer. But it shows you the 10 most common bacteria that when they get out of whack, opportunistic or pathogenic, contribute the most to Sibo. So on average, I see probably four lit up that are grown out of range. Right. And it's. It's very common. I've only had a couple clients where they didn't have a clear problem in their small intestine with bacteria there. The reason is mold and mycotoxins wreck the gut. I'm sure you've heard me say it a million times, but mycotoxins themselves attack the immune system. They're abrasive going through the GI tract. You've got mold colonizing in the GI tract. All of these things contribute to inflammation in the GI tract. Then you get that inflammation. Your digestive system is affected, so your stomach acid drops, your bile flow slows your pain. Pancreas isn't releasing enough enzymes, so food stops being broken down properly. So now you're not getting the amino acids. Now you're not getting all the vitamins. Now you're not getting all the minerals because the food's not being broken down. But then because your GI tract is inflamed, you can't absorb everything of what is there. So there's layer upon layer upon layer of problem. Then all this is makes a nice home for parasites. As you have this food going through, you have this inflammation. It's not being digested. Right. Parasites, which everyone has, start growing out of control. Now you've got another stressor in the gut, and that's adding more inflammation. And then your tight junctions of your leaky gut, of your leaky gut, tight junctions of your intestinal lining start pulling apart. Then you have leaky gut. And then that leaky gut allows proteins through into circulation. The body says, hey, this isn't supposed to be here. It creates antibodies to attack those. And now you got food sensitivities, sensitivities, food allergies, and autoimmune conditions starting due to all this chaos. But in the Midst of all this, the good bacteria gets crushed, the bad bacteria goes up. That bad bacteria can go from the colon and just start working because there's so much of it, it can start going backwards. And now it starts going into the small intestine. So Sibo doesn't have to just be in the small intestine. It can be in the colon too. We just. Our bacteria gets wrecked, the balance gets wrecked. And that's why I love the Gut Zoomer, because it shows us the different phyla, like families of bacteria. And where your bacteroide should be around 63%, your firmicutes around 27%. I get some people that are just like, yoink. They're just, they're upside down and backwards. They're proteobacteria. That should be around 4%. I've seen people up around 15%, and that's where a lot of your gram negative bacteria are in that phyla. So it's just the gut gets steamrolled with mold and mycotoxins. So absolutely Sibo is there. That's why I like running the Gut Zoomer early on with people that have obvious gut and digestive issues, because it takes a long time to move the needle in the gut. Right. But we can do it. I've seen amazing, amazing things with the tools that we have, so everything can go haywire. It's extremely common, like very common that the gut is affected. So could you have sibo from mold? 100%. Do most people have it? To a degree. And it's just part of the healing process, you know, detoxing the body, shifting the bacteria in the gut, bringing the immune system back up, getting rid of that colonization. It's all part of the protocol. Hope that helps.
