Difference between food mold and house mold?

Matt Kelly explains why eating moldy food is usually harmless but household mold is dangerous. You'd need to eat a few pounds of moldy grain daily to get sick from mycotoxins, but inhaling mold from water damage continuously exposes you to airborne toxins. Corn, peanuts, and fermented foods like kombucha are common sources of mycotoxins.

All right, guys, Catherine asked, what is the difference to our health between food mold consumed and black mold on window ledges and inhaled? Okay, that's a great question. What's the difference between mold we eat and mold that we're breathing in through. Through from colonies in our house due to water damage and or just high humidity. So when we're measuring, almost nobody gets sick from ingested mold. You would have to eat a few pounds of moldy grains a day in order to take in enough mold and mycotoxins from that mold, from that food. It's possible. I mean, you can get aflatoxins and different mycotoxins and molds from dairy, from grains. Grains being the biggest one, corn especially. That's why people that are mold toxic. Corn is one of those foods, too, that we have to get rid of from their diet because corn is extreme molds in the field, okay. It grows molded as mycotoxins in it. The stalk turns to mold at time of harvest because that's what God made mold for, to break down biological material at the end of its time. Right. So we don't really see food molds and mycotoxins being a problem unless you're eating a lot of something that went really bad. Okay. The problem is the molds in our house. And the reason is because they're emitting the mycotoxins. It's the mycotoxins that make us sick mostly, not the mold spores. They can create allergies and infections, respiratory issues, but usually 95, 99% of the time, it's the mycotoxins which are the most toxic part, and that's what's making us sick. So eating a little bit of mold on food is not near the same as breathing in 24, seven in your home. All these poisonous toxins coming from existing mold colonies. So while it's. Yeah, obviously watch for. Watch for moldy food. If you are mold toxic, though, make sure that you Google a list for mold moldy foods, because you want to keep away from those, because that's just one more stressor on the body. So, you know, peanuts and peanut butter and tomatoes even can become issues. So pasta sauce and ketchup for people can become issues, as well as dairy and grains and, you know, other obvious things, even like kombucha. Fermented things become issues for people. But overall, food is almost never an issue. Moldy food can affect someone that's mold toxic. The bigger issue is the air we're breathing in, the toxic mycotoxins coming from the water damage or high humidity in our homes.
