Is it worth running another ERMI after remediation?

Matt Kelly recommends retesting with ERMI after mold remediation to confirm it worked. Run a baseline test before, then wait 3-6 months after final cleaning for new dust to settle before testing again. Do fine-particle cleaning before that final test so results aren't skewed.

Liz is asking a good question here, which is, is it worth re testing after repairing the home? In my opinion, it absolutely is. Because I need to know myself personally. I test everything. I need to know that what was done, whether I did it myself or hired someone, I need to know that it was done right and that the new numbers are lower and hopefully very low. Right. So I would do. If you're working on the home, I would do a pre remediation ermi. Okay. To find out what the levels are at. Let the inspectors come in, find the problems, remediators come in, tear it all apart. Inspector would come in, test before everything goes back together to make sure it's clear. Remediators put everything back together, do an initial post remediation test in containment, if that's possible, if they'll do that. But then I would wait three months, six months, whatever. After the fine particle cleaning, everything's done, it's all new dust in the house, everything's been fixed, everything's been cleaned properly. We're talking new dust. Then I would do an ERMI one more time and compare that with the pre remediation ermi. That's the only way that's going to tell you how's my, how's my house now mold wise compared to before all this started? Because you're not just talking one specific remediation area that may have been done. Well, because I'm assuming they could have done multiple. It's like, did things spread? Did things get worse? Are there other new problems? Like, you know, so this is before everything started. This is my ERMI now six months, nine months later. Compare them. You know, does it look good? Is it lower? Are the big problems, the big stressors gone? I hope so. But yes, I definitely would retest after repairing, waiting for enough new dust to settle. Make sure you did the fine particle cleaning first because you don't want to be picking up spores from a problem that was already fixed that skews your results. Hope that helps.
