mTOR is one of those things your body naturally does and you want to have it in balance. mTOR inhibition is used if you have too aggressive growth of cells and you want to cut them off. You can use an mTOR inhibiting substance to help do that. So it turns out that metformin does that. It helps with activating an enzyme that's targeted by lots of cancer drugs nowadays called AMPK. And the reason that in cancer therapies they're always trying to get AMPK to activate is that AMPK helps to inhibit cancer growth and progression. So that's obviously very important there as well.
