What do I do if our humidity is too low?

Matt Kelly recommends keeping indoor humidity at 40-50% to prevent mold and protect wood. For very dry homes, use water-based diffusers near where people sleep or work instead of furnace humidifiers that spray water into ducts.

All right. Elizabeth is asking about humidity, but not what we're used to. We're usually asking about talking about high humidity, but Elizabeth has low humidity. As low as, oh, my goodness, sometimes it's even as low as 11 to 14. And yeah, this can happen in the wintertime, depending where you live. Like even here. Well, what's. My office right now is 30% on. I touched it, went up to 31, which is kind of the lowest you want to go. So with dehumidifiers, we're telling people to. I tell people to go between 40 and 50%. 45 is kind of the sweet spot because it doesn't stop mold growth, but it prevents it from, you know, raging out of control. But things like 11 to 14, 20, 25, that's too low. That's too low for your body, that's too low for your home. Your wood can be shrinking. Hardwood floors can be, you know, shrinking and cracking, which then lets moisture. And if you spill something because there's a crack there. So just don't go and put a humidifying unit on your furnace or something. Right. You know how they squirt water into your ductwork? Can you imagine anything worse than humidifiers that H vac guys install on the furnace to literally spray water into your ducts? Don't do that. So if it's that dry, what I tell people to do is just get a regular diffuser, like a water based diffuser, put it by your bed so that while you're sleeping all night, it can be putting a fine mist into the air that's not touching your ductwork. But that's going to help your body by breathing in a little more moist air. And if you're depending where you're working, if you're like me and you're sitting at a desk, put the diffuser by your desk. You can add essential oils, you know, make it smell good and have some health benefits there. But just keep that fine mist going where you're sitting, where you're working, where you're sleeping, and that will help your body deal with. But if your house is as low as that, like, I just never heard of anything so low. But you may want to have, you know, a couple diffusers going to help bump it up generally in your house, but definitely by your bed. And if you're working at a desk, at your desk, that will help your body start not feel so dried out and slowly raise it without filling your ductworks with water. Hope that helps.
