What do I do with a bad remediation job?

Matt Kelly walks through what went wrong when Elizabeth's mother's house got a botched mold remediation after a water tank leak. The original crew skipped containment and PPE, spreading spores through the house. A proper job means containment, HEPA vacuuming, removing porous materials, and treating the whole house to kill spores and mycotoxins.

All right, so Elizabeth shared a very unfortunate story with me here about her mom's house. Water tank leaked in the kitchen. And without reading you this whole thing, basically they, they did remediation, they set up containment, but they did not do it properly. And these guys didn't even wear any gear, they didn't wear any masks, they didn't wear anything, even though there was visible mold. And they were going in and out of containment out the front door. And then what happened was Elizabeth came in later to get something and she reacted immediately. And the question is, what can I do? So unfortunately, unfortunately, Elizabeth, this happens many times even with companies that are paid by insurance companies to come out and do a proper water and mold cleanup after something like this. And geez, it's just so frustrating when they don't train their people right and they're literally making the house worse. And that's what you experienced when you felt all those symptoms when you went back in. So unfortunately, they made a bad situation worse. So what can be done now? There's not much to do other than get in a team that understands it, get in a remediation team that specializes in mold and will come in and put it under proper containment and make sure all the sources are gone. But now the whole house needs to be treated. So the whole house needs a fine particle cleaning. And you're going to have to get picky about if you have carpet, if you have a lot of fabric on furniture and things that can't be easily cleaned. Everything's going to have to be HEPA vac and treated and all dust cleaned up as quickly as possible. Now you did send this email a month and a half, this message a month and a half ago. So I don't know where you're at in this journey, but I hope you found someone and that could do a complete cleaning of the house and get all that affected material out. Because without doing a fine particle cleaning, this house will stay toxic to you and you will forever react in it. You know, the reason you're reacting is because you're breathing in spores, fragments, mycotoxins, bacteria from the, from the water damage. So unfortunately the only answer is to get a team in that specializes in mold remediation and especially knows how to do a fine particle cleaning to make sure that you get everything that escaped that area out. Hope that helps.
