What Happens to Your BODY When You Use GLUTATHIONE?

Dr. A explains how glutathione, an antioxidant your liver produces, protects your immune system and brain. Low levels increase inflammation and damage blood vessels. Boosting glutathione may improve symptoms within weeks, though results depend on how severe your condition is and whether you have enough supporting nutrients.

But what you're trying to do is undo the base reasons why you're chronically ill. And of course, there's much more than glutathione in chronic illness, but it is a very core reason. Hey, I'm Dr. A, and this is my YouTube channel where we talk about things integrative, naturopathic medicine, etc. Today we're talking about glutathione. Had some questions around what happens in your body when you have glutathione working or when you augment glutathione, or even when you take glutathione. So let's break that down. The first thing that we want to think of is what does glutathione do just naturally in our body? Our body makes glutathione. Most of it is made by our liver, and it's used by our cells as an antioxidant or a redox molecule. And it works along with vitamin C and vitamin E in a little 3-way antioxidant cyclic machine in your body. So what it is supposed to do is help So that when we naturally develop these oxidant molecules, free radicals in the body, the antioxidants can come along and they can take away the reactive oxygen portion and make the reactive oxygen species or the free radical more neutral, less damaging to us. What happens when we get lower levels of glutathione is that we then start to have higher levels of inflammation in the body and That can then lead to a number of problems. So what does higher levels of inflammation do? It can damage the inside of the blood vessel walls. It can make the cholesterol more inflammatory, which can then damage other things. It can make our cells not work quite correctly. But also, higher levels of inflammation are known to slow down and deregulate the immune system and the function of the immune system. So Glutathione and its cohort there with vitamin C and vitamin E naturally in our body helps to decrease all these bad things we just talked about. Now, all of this, just as a disclaimer, goes to the use of glutathione, whether you're taking it exogenously, so taking it as say a pill or something, or getting injection of it, or if you are just trying to boost the activity of glutathione in your body. And everything has to be in the context of enough support nutrients to help run. Another video on support nutrients and glutathione. You can take a look at that too. What do we hear from people when they start to augment their glutathione? Well, in people who are chronically ill, so there's a spectrum of effects that people feel. Sometimes they're so far in the hole and they're so pro-oxidant that it takes a while of using glutathione before they notice things. Other people who maybe haven't been sick quite as long, will notice things usually a bit faster. And then there's everything in the middle. But from your body's point of view, as you augment glutathione and start to increase its activity, especially when you have the other support nutrients that are cycling as well, when you do that, you are going to start to have more physiologic balance in your body. So you're gonna start to have less inflammation. to have less inflammatory triggering in your body, which could be perceived by your body as pain. It could be perceived as a general sort of uneasiness in your body. It could be an immunologic triggering, as we mentioned earlier, but also inflammation in your brain where glutathione's very, very important is sometimes not perceived as pain. But it's perceived as an aggravation of your natural brain state. So you might have more trouble sleeping, you might have more maybe anxiety or maybe depression, et cetera, due to inflammatory activity in the brain. We also see this now in the research around the neurodiverse spectrum where you might have more, say, autism spectrum type features when you have a more inflamed brain. You may have more attention and inattention problems. You may have more hands, pandas type of symptoms. All of these can get worse too when you're pro-inflammatory. Now, on the biologic level, those things will start to change in the first 2 or 3 weeks. But whether or not you notice them depends on how deep the well is, how big the inflammatory problem is, et cetera. So for example, I've had younger people, say children, in the neurodiverse spectrum or younger people, you know, maybe with an inflammatory condition, and they notice rather quickly often some changes with glutathione augmentation. And I've had people who are very, very chronically ill where it starts to help, but it's much more subtle because they have a lot more damage to try and undo. So when we think about this, wanna remember that your effects and the things you notice from taking it may be slower or quicker depending on your underlying condition. Next reason they may be slower or quicker is how many of these cofactor nutrients do you not have, or are you low in any? So vitamin C is water soluble. We don't really store very much in our body, so we have to get vitamin C in every day. Vitamin C is a primary driver of keeping glutathione cycling. So obviously, If vitamin C is in and out of us every day and we don't have enough vitamin C levels, like especially when we're sick or vitamin C levels go down, that would be a really good thing to bring up as well and help the glutathione to work better. Now, what if you're not in the faster reacting end of the spectrum? So maybe a younger person or maybe someone who's not chronically ill, but you're in the other end of the spectrum where maybe you're chronically ill or maybe you've had some real heavy medical therapies that have wiped you out, you know, surgery and— Yeah. things of that nature. Well, it's still boosting glutathione, boosting glutathione activity, and all these cofactors is still gonna help you. The well is rather deep of things you have to undo that are pro-inflammatory. So the way you need to look at glutathione use in chronic illnesses, you might not— you might notice something today, but you probably won't notice much today. But what you're trying to do is undo the base reasons. why you're chronically ill. And of course, there's much more than glutathione in chronic illness, but it is a very core reason for a lot of chronic non-healing problems, a lot of chronic immunobalance problems, and other things related to that. Hope this answers the question. I'm Dr. A. We'll put some other videos up here. You can check on the links. Please like, share, subscribe. We appreciate that. And join our growing YouTube family.
