What if you test positive for mold but air quality test says no mold in home?

Matt Kelly explains why air quality tests miss mold that dust tests catch. An air sample showed four spores, but an ERMI test revealed water-damage molds producing mycotoxins that were making people sick. Use ERMI testing when air results come back negative but symptoms continue.

All right, Chris just asked a question which I've warned you guys about. You're gonna see. Hopefully you've watched my other videos, you know what I'm talking about. Let me read this question. He says, if you tested positive for mold and had someone check your house for air quality and that was negative, what would be the next step? Alright, anybody out there know, because I've covered this a lot of times, but if you're just starting to watch my videos, I, you know, I'll give you a break. The problem is he did an air quality test and not an Ermie. I actually have a blog post called Ermi vs Air Quality and it's got a boxing glove on the front holding a Swiffer. And I'm going to try to remember to post that link here with this video because it goes over a case study with one of my clients where she did exactly that. I knew there was mold in her house. She knew there was mold in her house. I said, don't call your local mold inspector, that's going to come do an air quality test. So guess what she did? She called her local mold inspector to do an air quality test. And in her home with her air quality test, it came back, it found four spores. That's it. And what did he tell her? Everything's fine. This would not affect your health. She had sick children, okay? And I knew that. I knew the problem was mold just based on symptoms when we were, you know, five, ten minutes into our consultation. So that's what she did. So I told her she had to do an urmi. She asked other people, they told her to do an urmi. So about, about a month later, she did an Ermie on the exact same house and it came back full of water damage molds that pump out toxic poisonous mycotoxins. And that's why her family was sick. And I knew it. But she did an air quality test and they did. What is the most dangerous thing that can happen is you consider mold. 1. You get to the point of finally finding the root cause, then a professional comes in and says, no, it's clear. So anyway, it's one of my biggest pet peeves in this mold industry. Kris. I would fully expect you would get an inspector to tell you that it was negative. So what would the next best step be? It would be to do an ermi. So an ERMI is a Swiffer test. And I'll put the link with this video that you go around every room in your house, you collect dust, high heights, you collect Dust low and then it goes to the lab and they take the dust off there, run it through the machines. And it uses PCR technology to identify the different molds and identify the concentration per that original sample. So it's the best data you can get for checking total toxic mold load on a home. Air tests are those machines are fine when you're doing cavity tests, when you're sucking out of a wall to see if there's 100,000 spores of stacky on the other side of that half inch of drywall, you know, because there might have been a leak in there or behind that dishwasher, behind that cabinet. But not for checking the total toxic load, which is what people are looking for when they're calling a mold inspector to check their house. Alright, so Chris, I'm sorry that you got that. I would confirm with an Ermias. I mean, hey, maybe your house is clean, but 99% of the time it's. If you're mold sick, it's usually coming from your house. So you need to get an URMI done to rule your house in or out as possible. It was your previous house or your place of work or another place like that. Right? But the air quality tests are utter garbage, waste of time and money for checking the total toxic mold load of your home.
