A doctor explains why medicine is worth it: watching patients with chronic illness improve, even slightly, and achieving outcomes other providers couldn't. Those moments make the hard parts disappear.

What makes practicing medicine worth it? A lot of negatives to practicing medicine, but seeing somebody who's been so sick make even the smallest amount of gain, seeing somebody who knows that they maybe have a life-threatening illness that will never leave them, but realize that their quality of life has improved or their underlying health has improved. Any sort of change that can go on that maybe you can do that the prior providers were not able to do for them really makes all of the negative go away. That's why I love doing it.
