What’s the connection between histamine and mold?

Matt Kelly explains how mold exposure triggers histamine problems and mast cell activation. Mycotoxins damage the gut and dysregulate the immune system, causing dizziness, nausea, headaches, fatigue, and rashes. The fix is removing mold exposure and rebuilding gut and immune function.

This is asking a great question about histamine and the mold connection. What signs to look for in testing to do so? Mold, in my opinion, is the biggest driver to histamine problems. And mast cell activation can also be from infections. Chemicals creating histamine problems, more like those can be triggers. But mold is often one of the biggest drivers besides infection. But I still put mold at the highest. The reason is because it creates such immune dysregulation that the immune system starts going haywire and these mast cells start degrading, releasing those mediators like histamine and interleukins and cytokines and others. But the immune system just freaks out over it as it gets dysregulated due to this constant stress of exposure. Then it also wrecks the gut. Mold and mycotoxins wreck the gut, which further dysregulates the immune system. So unfortunately, the longer people are in exposure and the more sick they get from mold, the higher their chances are of becoming of getting issues with histamine and getting mast cell activation. MCAs, mast cell activation syndrome, having mast cell issues. So with our own son, when he had mast cell issues, it would look like dizziness, nausea, head pain, fatigue, low blood pressure. Other people can get itching and sweats and rashes, hot flashes. Okay, so these are. That's kind of what it can look like. And unfortunately, it is very common in mold. And it comes down to getting out of exposure and opening up, doing all those steps we talk about. And as you support the body and regulate the immune system, obviously working on the guts, one of the big ones. And that will start to come down. But it is awful. I feel so sorry for those people with that because it's a long, slow process and trying to manage it when it's at its worst is a full time job as well. I hope that helps.
