Why is an OAT test good for mold illness?

Matt Kelly explains how the Organic Acids Test detects mold illness through nine markers that identify yeast and fungi like Candida and Aspergillus, plus dysbiosis and oxalate levels that spike with mold toxicity. The urine test screens for fungal colonization more practically than direct mycotoxin testing.

So Kat mentioned to me that she's going to get an organic acid test done. And I love getting an organic acid test done from people with mold and Lyme, but especially mold, because the first nine rows in that lab report are about yeast and fungal markers. So it checks for Candida through arabinose. It checks for some Aspergillus metabolites and also a Fusarium metabolite. Now, can you be colonized with other molds? Absolutely. But this is the best lab, the best testing that we have to look for that. And if you have a problem, because Aspergillus is so common that if you have a problem, it's likely going to show up under the Aspergillus markers. But sometimes it could just be the Fusarium marker, which I think is RO9 in the organic acid test. So I use Mosaic Diagnostics, which is formerly Great Plains Lab, which you've probably heard of that one. But Mosaic is their rebranded name, which is. I like the name better. Their website's better and their logo is better. So good job, guys. But the oat is important because it provides. It's like 75 different tests in one or something. And it's a urine test, so it's easy to do, but it gives us so much data. Like I said, the first nine lines are yeast and fungal. Fungal markers. So that's the first place I look. This is telling us, do you have fungal colonization? You have mold growing in your body. If it is, the bars start going up, the numbers start going up. But it also shows us, like your, your hippuric acid, which is a metabolite of gut bacteria, usually pathogens or bad bacteria that you don't want. You have an overgrowth of bad guys. Sometimes that hepuric acid will be creeping out from the bad guys. Well, not. Sometimes it will. If you've got an over overflow of bad bacteria in your gut, you'll see that hepuric acid go up. Another good marker is the clostridium markers at the bottom of the first page of the report. And as a gut gets more dysbiotic. And what creates a dysbiotic? Gut mold, mold and mycotoxins wreak havoc on the gut. So the more dysbiotic the gut gets, the more Clostridia infections bacteria will run out of range. So there's a lot of different Clostridia species. You know, we're familiar with C. Diff, Clostridia Difficile, but there are other ones, too. And the more dysbiotic the bucket, the Did I say? But the gut, not the butt. The more dysbiotic the gut gets that clostridia goes up. And as clostridia goes up, that creates a problem with dopamine. As dopamine goes up, that affects the brain is excitatory. You can sometimes easily see that in kids without even testing. But there's a ton of other markers in here about, you know, it checks some of your B vitamins and mitochondria, health markers, amino acids, fatty acid oxidation, oxalates. Oxalates is the other big one for mold. Like for some people, they could just show me their oxalates table, which is three different markers. The bottom one is just oxalates. And I can tell you if they have mold toxicity or not mold exposure just by looking at how high their oxalates are. That's a. You always see it. They go hand in hand. It can also be from Candida, but Candida is also very high in people with mold. You know, very rarely do you see that marker where it should be when someone has mold exposure, mold toxicity. But anyway, I don't want to break down the whole lab for you here, but I just wanted to let you know because Kat here mentioned going to run a new test, organic acid test. And I just wanted to share with you guys that, yes, that is an awesome test. Running for mycotoxins is showing the mycotoxins, but the organic acid test is the best way for checking for actual fungal colonization in the gut. When we're trying to figure out what has mold done to you, do you.
