Why is mold coming back on my wall?

Matt Kelly explains why mold keeps coming back on your wall: there's a moisture source (like a hidden leak) feeding it, plus existing mold spores that regrow. Find the leak, test your indoor mold with an ERMI test, and keep humidity below 50%.

All right, Tammy's got some bad news. She says surface mold is reappearing on an inside wall. Tammy. Then there's a serious problem going on. There's moisture coming from somewhere to keep it coming back. If you're cleaning that off or cutting that out, I don't know what you're doing to deal with it or how you're seeing it come back. But surface mold reappearing on an inside wall, that means two. Two. You got two things wrong. You've got a moisture source that's feeding it and allowing it to keep growing, and you've got a mold problem that's feeding that to grow there. So you need to find out if there's a water leak in the wall. Like, you can literally just have like copper soldering where a little pinhole got blown out from water pressure after years. And. And it's literally just running down slow and dripping. Okay. I've seen people open up walls where they had no idea there's a problem, but they found they saw copper and it could be pecs too. Okay. Like someone put which is plastic water line, like a carpenter put, nailed the trim on and put one right in the pex and it could slowly be coming out around that. So you need to find out where the water source is coming from that's feeding that. Or do you just have really high humidity in your house and a serious mold problem that's allowing it to keep growing there. So do an ERMI on the house to find out if you have a mold problem in the house, to find out which molds are there, if there's toxic molds there, what their concentrations are, and then make sure you've got the humidifier to running to keep that under 50%. Because if it's not a direct water source, then it could just be high humidity. So those are a couple of things to check. Rule out in or out a real bad mold problem with the ermi and you got to figure out why there's moisture in that wall. Is there a leak or humidity? Alright, hope that helps.
