In this solo episode of the Connect the Dots daily podcast recorded on January 2, 2022, Matt Ragland encourages listeners to start the year strong by "stacking winning weeks"—stringing together productive weeks to build momentum. He introduces the GAP method (Goal, Actions, Protection) as a simple framework for weekly planning: set a clear weekly goal, list the concrete actions needed, and protect dedicated time to execute them. Ragland advises newcomers to habit formation to add buffer time to their protected blocks and to track actual time spent, allowing adjustments for future weeks. He also promotes his upcoming Productivity Power‑Up live class beginning January 10 and invites listeners to connect via Twitter (@MattRagland). The episode blends motivational encouragement with practical, step‑by‑step guidance for effective weekly productivity.

Welcome back to another daily episode of the Connect the Dots podcast, the daily dot, if you will. It is January 2nd, 2022. We're looking at the first Monday of 2022. The first Monday of a new year always feels so ripe with possibility. All the goals, all the habits, all the new routines are high in your mind. Maybe you've been doing them for a couple of days already. Maybe you're waiting for the first Monday of the new year. I want you to think about this concept that I've been talking about on my YouTube channel and some on this podcast as well over 2021, which is this concept of stacking winning weeks one right after another, because it's my belief that the secret to a productive year is actually stacking productive weeks and chunks of productive weeks one right after another. And so this is our first opportunity at winning the week coming up in 2022. And so I want you to think about how we use the GAP method. And if you haven't heard the GAP method before, there are a couple of podcast episodes about this that go into more detail, but the quick and dirty version of it is if you set a specific goal for the week, that's the G, then think about the actions, the actual things that you need to do. To achieve that goal, write all those down, and then protect some time to get it done this week. Okay? Really simple. Think about that. Goal, actions, protection. Now, one little caveat about that is if you're pretty new to this or the goal that you want to achieve is pretty new and maybe you're not as experienced at it, very common for this time of year, I want you to give yourself some grace and a little bit of extra buffer. This week in terms of the time that you think it will take you to get it done. Okay. So if you're going into something like maybe you have a new writing habit that you want to start, or like for me, I'm going to be doing a little bit of this daily podcasting and I could probably get this done. I could probably protect just 30 minutes to do it, but I'm going to protect an hour. Okay. Now, if you can't protect one nonstop uninterrupted hour, then instead try and give yourself like a backup time as well. So maybe 2 30-minute blocks. So when you block out your time to do this, just give yourself a little bit of extra just in case it takes a little longer. And if you want to kind of go above and beyond mentally or systematically on this, track your time while you're doing, while you're doing this new goal and these actions so that when you go into week 2, of the new year, you'll have a better understanding. Okay. You can kind of use the pivot. We'll talk about that at the end of the week. You can look at it and say, oh, I thought this was going to take me 30 minutes. Turns out it took me 45. So I'm going to protect an hour just to give myself a little bit more buffer. Okay. So that's just our thought for today. Give yourself 30-ish minutes today to go through your GAP for this week and really just think about one goal, one win that you want to achieve this week. What is the goal? What are the actions that you need to achieve, accomplish, complete in order to reach the goal? And then how much time do you need to protect in order to get that done? Okay. So that's it for this daily episode of Connect the Dots podcast. I'll be back tomorrow. Thanks for listening. Reach out to me on Instagram or Twitter, probably more Twitter. I'm on Twitter a lot more for better or for worse. Just @MattRagland. Let me know what you think about this if you're listening to him. And if you want to be involved in the Productivity Power-Up live class that is starting on January 10th, go to productivitypowerup.com. You'll get all the information you need about how to join and a nice little free gift as well. Okay. Thanks so much for listening and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
