3 Things That Are Broken in US Healthcare Today

A doctor names three middlemen choking US healthcare: insurance companies, legal and paperwork burdens, and large health systems owned by private equity. All three block direct patient-physician contact and drive up costs.
It's the insurance companies, legal requirements. And then the third is the giant system/private equity entry. And so those to me are the 3 really big jerks that have inserted themselves in the middle between the patient and the physician.
All right, so what's broken in healthcare? What do you— what would you say are the top 3 things that are broken? I know there's probably a much longer list than that.
Yeah, absolutely.
When you think of healthcare today, what are the big 3 that kind of keep you awake at night?
The big 3 to me are the 3 middlemen, so to speak. So for me, it's the insurance companies. It's like, I don't know if to say legal requirements, to just leave it at legal, or to say all of the burdensome paperwork. I think they're one and the same. So I'll just call it paperwork. And then the third is the giant system/private equity entry. And so those to me are the 3 really big jerks that have inserted themselves in the middle between the patient and the physician. And really, if they are to be there at all, should have a much smaller role than they have today.
And I agree with you, by the way. I believe that healthcare in America, you know, we Americans never do anything like everybody else. We have to do it our own way. Right. There's— and basically what we've done is we've created an Americanized version of national healthcare. It's winding up in the small hands of a very few insurance providers. Right. And that's not good for anyone.
