Cody Candee Q&A On Tips For Managing Marketplace Liquidity Imbalances

Cody Candee explains how to catch marketplace imbalances across thousands of cities: break metrics into city-level components and assign individual owners to each one. When one city's revenue dropped, they traced it to a missing backlink from a local visitor bureau, restored the link, and recovered the lost revenue.
Hey, Michael, saw you raise your hand. Do you want to jump on here?
Yes, thank you, Cody. Congrats on the successive bounce. I had a question for you. Now that you're in so many locations, do you have any recommendations or best practices for other marketplaces that are in lots of locations of specifically measuring supply and demand imbalances? That's something I've been thinking a lot about lately.
And we're getting better and better at that. I think, yeah, if one city tanks, but it's one of like 2,000 cities, you might not notice. Now that we have a bigger team and we have folks who are really dialed in or responsible for subcomponents, we actually saw, they actually noticed, and we wouldn't have noticed otherwise, that our revenue dropped in a city. And then they investigated it. And then they found that we lost a position or a couple of positions on SEO. And then they looked into that and they found that there was a key partner, like a key maybe visitor bureau that mentioned Bounce. And then we didn't have the link anymore. And then this person actually noticed the drop in Google search from that. And because she was so dialed into those metrics, she was able to call that visitor bureau, get that link back on the website. We went back up in Google search rankings and then our revenue came back up. So it is really hard to manage it all at scale. But as, as we subdivide the metrics and give them to give individual responsibility to people for a subset of the business and then a deeper subset of the business, that's allowed us to pick up on these nuances and make sure that we can still win every market even when we're in so many.
