In this brief Q&A, the host asks Shigen about how AptDeco currently approaches data and its plans for AI. Shigen emphasizes a rigorous, data‑story driven culture where every decision must be justified by clear data insights, which he credits for the company’s healthy economics and affordable customer acquisition. Regarding AI, he outlines three active initiatives: (1) launching an AI‑driven curation experience to reduce friction for both business and retail customers, (2) leveraging existing off‑the‑shelf AI tools to enhance the user experience, and (3) building custom logistics AI solutions, such as routing models, to improve operational efficiency. The discussion highlights a pragmatic, value‑focused approach to AI—using tools that directly improve customer experience and internal logistics rather than building AI for its own sake.

Hey, uh, Shigen, do you want to come on? Hi, quick question. You've talked a lot about the early days. I guess as someone who specializes on data, um, how are you looking at data today, um, in your marketplace? And then if you have any plans for AI, that term that everyone brings up, in your roadmap?
Oh yeah, data is— we look at data very closely today. Everybody's— they know not to come to me without having like a a whole data story, right? And I'm not just saying like, just do analysis for the sake of analysis, but like, it's just like, well, like, what does the data say? Like, you know, how do we, what does it tell us? And like, let's use, you know, make an informed decision based on that. Yeah. So it's very, very integral to everything we do. And, you know, that's why we've, you know, we've been able to build like a really healthy business, a healthy, fundamentally sound business where, you know, economics makes sense and, you know, customer acquisition is affordable. All of those things is rooted on that. As far as your next question around AI, it's some, it's actually stuff we're working on right now where we're launching like a whole curation experience using AI. But we're not just building for the sake of building. I think it's like we're trying to figure out like what tools can we leverage that already exist that will just make the experience less frictional. create, create less friction for our customers and our, you know, whether it's a business, business customer or a retail customer. There's a lot of stuff that we're looking at in the logistics side that we are building ourselves. So some stuff we're taking off the shelf that will just help, some stuff we're building ourselves for logistics, you know, routing models and things of that nature.
